Suspected militants fired upon Security Forces (SFs) in Chhanapora in Nowgam area in Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on February 6, reports Daily Excelsior.Official sources said, militants fired upon 29 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Chanapora, in which one CRPF personnel sustained bullet injuries. A Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) jawan(trooper) and at least two cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were injured during an encounter on Toklo hills at the Jamro axis in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on February 7, reports Hindustan Times. “A CoBRA jawan has been injured while 2-3 Maoist extremists have also been hit in the encounter at Toklo hills of West Singhbhum district this morning. The injured jawan has been airlifted to Ranchi for appropriate medical care. The encounter happened on the border at West Singhbhum-Saraikela-Kharsawan-Khunti triangle. The search operation is still on and more details are awaited,” Ajay Linda, West Singhbhum,Superintendent of Police (SP), said. The injured CoBRA jawan has been identified as Narayan Chetri from Assam. “Narayan Chetri is now out of danger. The joint forces of district police, CRPF and CoBRA battalions have inflicted heavy damages on the Maoists. 2-3 Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] have sustained bullet injuries and search is on to trace them. We have also seized pipe bombs, land mines, IEDs, several rounds of ammunition and rucksacks,” Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Kolhan,Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), said.Police said a Maoist squad led by Toofan alias Patiram Majhi (Giridih), who has a bounty of INR 10 million on his head, and ‘area commander’ Maharaj Pramanik, who has a reward of INR 1 million on his head, opened fired on the Security Forces (SFs) when they were on a search operation. Stating that the operation was still on and would not stop until the Maoist squads active in the three districts of Kolhan are neutralised, the DIGP, Singh, said, “We will not spare anyone and will not stop before wiping out the Naxals completely. The developmental works for the people have been greatly hampered by these naxals and their subversive activities. They better surrender or be ready to be neutralized.”

Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers identified as – Satyendra Singh and Vishnu Singh, were injured in an exchange of fire with the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in Jhumra Pahad forest under Jageshwar Vihar Police Station limits in Bokaro District of Jharkhand on February 10, reports The Tribune. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a Maoist camp, a joint team of Jharkhand Police and CRPF launched a combing operation in the area. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), clearance operation is in progress to eliminate any terrorist found in the area. The incident took place in the area a day after Shura Mujahideen of North Waziristan headed by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ‘commander’ Hafiz Gul Bahadur announced a ceasefire for 20 days. The outfit announced cessation of hostilities following a statement by Prime Minister Imran Khan on October 1 that his government had initiated a reconciliation process with different groups of the banned TTP to end violence. As per Police sources, the militants had abducted village chief Ranwang Lowang and ex-ASM Sunwang Hakhun of Laho village in Longding District on November 14 to get their due ransom amount from the villagers before November 20. During a search operation launched for the abducted persons, the militants were intercepted along the international border of India-Myanmar and a fierce encounter ensured. Three militants were killed while one Assam Rifles (AR) personal sustained injury in hand. Three AK series rifles, ammunition and warlike stores were recovered from the possession of the slain militants.
