Pakistan troops violated the cease-fire on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Sabjian sub sector of Poonch District by opening firing on forward Indian posts. Official sources said Pakistan Army resorted to firing from their Kopra post along KP Nullah in Sabjian targeting forward posts of the Border Security Force at 11 am. The firing continued for about one hour during which Pakistani troops also lobbed UBGL grenades and fired about 100 rounds from automatic weapons. The Indian side, however, didn’t retaliate. This was the second incident of cease-fire violation on LoC during the last about one month. On the previous occasion, the Pakistan Army had opened firing on Indian positions in the Manjakote sub sector. However, no casualties or damage was reported in the Pakistan army’s firing, sources said.

Yet another infiltration attempt, backed by Pakistan troops, was made by a group of Pakistani militants from the Line of Control (LoC) at Sagra village in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district in the early hours of September 1. An Army trooper is reported to have died in the firing from across the LoC. "It was being ascertained as to whether the bullet was fired by Pakistan army or the militants trying to sneak-in. The bullet was fired from a sniper rifle which was available with top commanders of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen militants", official sources told the Daily Excelsior. The Indian Army is reported to have sought a flag meeting with Pakistan army commanders on the LoC to lodge a protest on both aspects – the cease-fire violation and infiltration attempt by the militants. According to sources, Pakistan army and Rangers have been using a new modus operandi on the LoC as well as the International Border (IB) to push militants. They first target forward Indian posts and then try to push the militants by diverting the attention of the Security Forces. However, the Pakistan army and Rangers have not succeeded in their plan so far, sources added.

The Pakistan Army violated the cease-fire between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran Sector of Kupwara District by firing 14 mortar shells to give cover to a column of infiltrating militants on October 30, Daily Excelsior reported. Two militants were killed in the ensuing encounter near the LoC. One of the slain militants is believed to be a Pakistani Army regular as an identity card of Pakistan Army was recovered from him. Sources said the identity card bears the name of Zohaib Niyaz, a soldier of Punjab Regiment of Pakistan Army. "Fourteen mortar shells were fired from across the Line of Control at our positions at around 8.30 PM last night. Simultaneously, some movement was also observed," a Defence spokesman said in capital Srinagar. The Army retaliated the action from Pakistani side by firing small arms and engaged the infiltrators in a gun battle, Defence spokesman Lt Colonel J. S. Brar said. He said bodies of two intruders were recovered from the incident site along with two AK rifles, an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher, one ICOM Radio Set and one Thuraya Radio Set.

The Pakistan Army again resorted to a cease-fire violation firing indiscriminately on Indian positions between Dadote and Kanga Gali in the Balakote sector of Poonch District late on November 20, apparently in a bid to push infiltrators into Indian territory, Daily Excelsior reported. Official sources said the Pakistan Army resorted to heavy firing on Indian positions between Dadote and Kangal Gali from 7.30 pm to 8.15 pm. This was followed by small arms firing for about another half an hour after which the firing stopped. Sources said the cease-fire violation by Pakistan Army was aimed at facilitating an infiltration attempt by the trained militants from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) into Indian side. However, the intrusion bid was foiled by the troops all along the Line of Control (LoC) in the twin border Districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

However, in the process, one trooper was also killed and two others injured. Official sources said cease-fire violation by the Pakistan Army at Tarkundi in Balakote sector of Mendhar tehsil (revenue unit) in Poonch District during which they fired heavily on Indian positions was aimed at pushing a group of five to seven militants into the Indian territory. Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) Ashok Gupta said that militants made three attempts to infiltrate into this side from the area falling between Dandot and Kanga Gali on the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sector since the night of November 20. A day after an abortive infiltration attempt on the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch District, Pakistan Rangers opened firing on forward Indian posts on the International Border (IB) in the morning of December 20 at Hiranagar sector in Kathua district reportedly with a view to push militants. The militants were, however, unable to intrude due to alertness displayed by the Border Security Force (BSF), which immediately retaliated the firing. The BSF has, meanwhile, put in place a Winter Border Management Strategy (WBMS) all along the IB in Jammu sector to keep a check on infiltrators as reports revealed that the militants continued to camp at launching pads across the IB awaiting an opportunity to sneak in, IG BSF AK Surolia said here this morning.
