Four terrorists, including a suicide bomber, were killed by Security Forces (SFs) during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 2, reports Dawn. A press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said SFs conducted the operation based on the reported presence of terrorists. “During the conduct of operation, intense fire exchange took place between own troops and the terrorists, as a result of which four terrorists were sent to hell, including a suicide bomber,” the ISPR said. The ISPR added that arms, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the terrorists.

Seven Army personnel were killed when Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) cadres ambushed a Security Forces (SFs) convey with improvised explosive device (IED) in Mand town of Kech District in Balochistan on January 2, reports The Balochistan Post. BLF claimed responsibility for the attack in a media statement. BLF ‘spokesman’ Gharam Baloch said that all seven enemy personnel were killed and the military vehicle was completely destroyed as a result of the bombing. He added that video footage of the attack will soon be released to the media. However, neither the Government nor the District administration confirmed or denied the incident. Soon after the incident, a large number of SFs cordoned off the area and helicopters were seen flying throughout the day.

Six non-local young barbers were killed by unidentified assailants in an incident of target killing in Moski village of Mir Ali tehsil (revenue unit) in North Waziristan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 2, reports The Express Tribune. The bodies of the six men were discovered in the fields of Moski village. Preliminary investigation reveals that the victims, all of whom hailed from Punjab, were shot dead execution style. The victims, all below 30 years of age, included two youths less than 18 years’ old, hence without national identity cards (NICs). All of them were barbers, who owned barber shops in Mir Ali Bazaar, recently migrated to North Waziristan to pursue their trade. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Officials believe that the killings are aimed at causing fear as letters to barbers for not digressing from specific hairstyles and forbidding shaving beards had been distributed in the form of pamphlets in the area in the last few months, adds The Khorasan Diary.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the responsibility of the attack, adds The Khorasan Diary. The death toll from the January 8 attack on a Police van in Bajaur District rose to seven on January 9, reports Dawn. Two terrorists also killed in the subsequent operation. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Qasim Ali Khan said that exchange of fire took place between terrorists and Police. The terrorists took refuge in a house however clashes between the police officials and terrorists continued. Later, the District Police Officer (DPO) Iftikhar Ali Shah announced the successful completion of operation stating that a rocket attack was launched at the house where the terrorists were hiding and two dead bodies of terrorists recovered.

The Taliban's security command spokesperson, Khalid Zadran, mentioned that the explosive device was planted in the back side of a vehicle (Mercedes), and no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the incident. The Islamic State - Khorasan Province (IS-KP) claimed responsibility for the second attack that occurred on January 9 in the Alwkhil area in the 16th Police District (PD) in Kabul, reports Hindustan Times on January 10. Earlier, SATP reported that at least three civilians were killed, and four others were injured in this attack.

On January 10, four militants belonging to combined forces of Arambai Tengol and Valley Based Insurgent Groups (VBIGs) were killed in a gunfight with Kuki-Zo village volunteers at Haotak Phailen Village in Churachandpur District of Manipur, reports India TodayNE. The gunfight resulted from some illegal cutting of firewood in the forest by the insurgents. The village volunteers on receiving reports of illegal activity in the forest acted swiftly to disperse them, resulting in the killing of four militants. On January 10, four civilians identified as Oinam Romen Meitei (45), Ahanthem Dara Meitei (56), Thoudam Ibomcha Meitei (53) and Thoudam Anand Meitei (27) were killed by Kuki militants at Haotak Phailen village in Churachandpur District of Manipur, reports India TodayNE. Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Indira Kalyan Elesela said a joint team of 175 personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF) went on the operation. After coming under attack, the Security Forces (SFs) retaliated with firing, killing at least three Maoists. The Maoists broke off and fled after a long gunfight. While combing the battleground, the forces found three dead Maoists and three guns, the SP said, adding that the "number of Maoist deaths may increase." "Unless the body of Raju Salam is recovered, we consider him alive," the SP said. Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of a large group of 40–50 Maoists in Bade Tungali and Chhote Tungali villages under the Jangla Police Station area, a joint team of District Reserve Guards (DRG), Bastar Fighters, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was set to intercept the Maoists. The intel said there were some top Maoists in the group, including ‘platoon commander’ Prashant of West Bastar Division's Company No. 2, Matwada Local organisation squad (LOS) ‘commander’ Anil Punem and Bhairamgarh Area Janathana Sarkar (Peoples Government) ‘president’ ‘area committee member (ACM)’ Rajesh. The first gunfight broke out at 7 a.m. on February 27. The Maoists retreated after a fierce exchange of fire. The forces went in pursuit, and a second encounter erupted two hours later at 9.30 a.m. Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Kumar confirmed that the bodies of four Maoists, who are yet to be identified, have been recovered. He said that upon spotting the Police team, the terrorists opened fire. “The militants also threw a grenade due to which SP Sherpao was martyred,” the DPO added. Rural Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Naseem Khan and two constables, Mansoor and Saleem, were injured in the incident. Two terrorists were killed in the exchange of fire. Mohsin Qadir was the main TTP ‘commander’ of Mardan and Nowshera region responsible for providing stop overs and bomb making materials to groups that could manage to infiltrate from Afghanistan. He was wanted for multiple counts of target killings and bomb attack. He was an ex-serviceman who abandoned the service and joined TTP in 2010. The second terrorist killed in the operation is Abbas, who was the brother in law of Mohsin Qadir. He was an IED expert and was wanted for multiple target killings and extortions.

A press release from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that a group of eight terrorists attempted to enter the Port Authority Colony but were successfully thwarted by SFs personnel. “Own troops employed for security responded immediately and effectively engaged the terrorists, and in ensuing fire exchange, all eight terrorists were sent to hell. A large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives was also recovered”. The dead soldiers were identified as Sepoy Bahar Khan (35), a resident of Dera Ghazi Khan District (Punjab) and Sepoy Imran Ali (28), a resident of Khairpur District (Sindh). The Majeed Brigade of the BLA claimed responsibility for the attack. Located at the center of the city, GPA Complex has several offices related to the Gwadar Port Authority, law enforcement agencies, and staff houses, adds ARY News. According to Police, people staying at the shelter in Basaguda were cautioned not to venture outside the Police cover surrounding the shelter. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar Range, Sundarraj P, said personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and its elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) were involved in the operation. After the exchange of fire stopped, the bodies of four Maoists, along with a Light Machine Gun (LMG) and other weapons, were recovered from the spot. Nine more bodies of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were recovered on April 3 morning in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh, bringing the total number of Maoists killed in the gun battle in the forest between Lendra and Korcholi villages under the Gangaloor Police Station limits on April 2 to 13, reports The Times of India. "The identity of the dead Maoists was yet to be ascertained, but prima facie, it appears that they belonged to the PLGA (People's Liberation Guerrilla Army) company no. 2 of Maoists," a senior Police official said. Police previously reported the seizure of weapons including a Light Machine Gun (LMG), a .303 rifle, and a 12-bore gun, along with a substantial quantity of barrel grenade launchers, shells, and other arms and ammunition from the site. It is to be noted here that Bijapur District falls within the Bastar Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) constituency, scheduled to vote in the initial phase of the general elections on April 19.

Kanker Superintendent of Police (SP) Kalyan Elesela said, “Senior Maoist commanders Shankar Rao and Lalita were among those killed, and they carried a cash bounty of Rs 25 lakh [INR 2.5 million] each. Another cadre, Vinod Gawde, who was active in Rajnandgaon and the state bordering regions of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, was also killed in the biggest encounter ever. Gawde carried a Rs 10 lakh [INR 1 million] bounty on his head.” Three security personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) and District Reserve Guards (DRG) also sustained bullet injuries in the encounter. Many automatic assault weapons were seized, including the INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) assault rifle, AK 47, SLR (Self-Loading Rifle), carbine, and.303 rifles in large quantity.
