According to reports, naval troops conducted a cordon and search operation following information about their presence in the area and as they were ready to enter the Amman Kovil/Puliyankadal premises with the Kovil incumbent they were fired upon by the outfit cadres from inside the Kovil. Naval troops retaliated with small arms which resulted in two explosions. In the operation all five LTTE cadres who were inside the Kovil were killed. The Sri Lanka Air Force completely destroyed the clandestine LTTE radio station, Voice of Tigers (VOT), at Thiruviyar in the Kilinochchi district on November 27. The aerial attack totally crippled their radio transmissions and all other transmission of their messages. The radio station was to air the annual speech of LTTE chief Velupillai Prabakaran 90 minutes later. The LTTE Secretariat on its Website claimed that nine civilians, including five employees of the VOT, were killed and nine others injured when the VOT buildings on A9 Road, 3.5 km from Kilinochchi town, was bombed, adds Hindu. “Employees were present at the Voice of Tigers office to broadcast the War Heroes’ commemorations. The Voice of Tigers buildings were flattened,” the Website said, adding, two Kfir bombers dropped 12 bombs on the buildings.
