A case has been filed on June 15 against 43 people, including former joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam (HeI) Mamunul Haque, on charges of embezzling around BDT 20 crore, reports Dhaka Tribune. Maulana Abdur Razzak Qasemi, on behalf of a madrasa in Dhaka, filed the case with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court under several sections of the Penal Code. According to the case statement, the accused embezzled around BDT 20 crore by showing costs of food items for the students and teachers of Al Madrasatul Mueenul Islam, located in Dhaka’s Vatara area, and buying rod and cement for construction purposes. He also accused them of extortion and illegal entry into the madrasa.
