The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on February 25 arrested one Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) activist from a slum in Demra area of Dhaka, identified as Abu Muslim Mohammad Ali, who was on the run for a decade and sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1) in absentia by a tribunal for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, reports The Daily Star. The arrestee was a resident of Gaibandha's Sundarganj Upazila (sub-district). RAB stated, “He was an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami in 1971 during the (1971) Liberation War when he was involved in mass murders, arson, rapes and looting in (northwestern) Gaibandha.” RAB sources stated that Abu Muslim was one of the organisers of JeI’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) in 1971, and an active member of Sundarganj Thana JeI. He was also an active member of the Peace Committee and was involved in various criminal activities, including looting, in Gaibandha's Kamarjani area.
