Chapainawabganj District Court on October 30 sentenced a cadre of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir to 10 years in prison, reports Dhaka Tribune. The convicted Omar Faruq (33), was also slapped a fine of BDT 50,000. Inability to pay the fine will result in an additional six months in jail, read the court order.
On June 13, 2016, Police acting on a tip-off, managed to arrest Omar Faruq, during a secret meeting of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Ghorapakhia village of Chapainawabganj District. Police also recovered from his possession, a foreign made pistol, a magazine, a bullet, 500 grams of gunpowder, and a number of Jihadi books.
