Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on January 23 blew up an INR 130 million bridge on Barakar River in Giridih District of Jharkhand, reports The Indian Express. Giridih Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anil Kumar Singhsaidthe blast took place on the bridge, between Baragada and Lurango, under Dumri Police Station limits at around 2.30 am [IST] on January 23. The foundation for the bridge was laid in 2018 under the Mukhyamanti Gram Setu Yojana and it was inaugurated a month ago. The CPI-Maoist is observing a ‘resistance week’ in protest against the arrest of Prashant Bose alias Kishan Da, the ‘secretary’ of the CPI-Maoist’s ‘Eastern Regional Bureau’, who was in charge of insurgent activities in several States, including Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It has called for a bandh (general shut down strike) in Bihar and Jharkhand on January 27.
