A group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres set three road construction machines on fire between Pursalgondi and Alenga in the Etapalli Taluka (administrative unit) in Gadchiroli District of Maharashtra on March 2, reports The Times of India. Maoists had been opposing road construction which is close to the mining site of Surjagarh. Though not part of the mining corridor, Maoists had earlier warned the contractor against continuing their work. The road is being constructed by a Nagpur-based company. Local villagers have also been urged by Maoists to stop working at the mining sites.
