The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet against 10 cadres associated with jihadist group named 'Shahadat is our Goal' on January 23, in a Chennai court, reports India Today. "The probe establishes that accused were radicalised by violent Jihadi ideology. Prime accused Sheik Dawood and Mohamed Rifas had attempted to carry out terror acts by procuring illegal firearms," stated un-named NIA officials. Besides Dawood and Rifas, other accused in the case have been identified as Muparish Ahamed, Abubakar Siddiq, Ahamed Imithiyas, Mohamed Rashid, Hameed Asfar, Liyakath Ali, Sajith Ahamed, and Rizwan Mohammed. The case was originally registered as FIR 46/2018 dated April 2018, under sections 153A and 120B of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 15(c), 17, 18, 19 and 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967 and sections 25(1)(a) of Arms Act, 1959 at Keelakarai Police Station in Ramanathapuram District of Tamil Nadu. It was the arrest of Mohamed Rifas, Muparish Ahamed and Abupakkar Sithik from Keelakarai that led authorities to uncover this terror network. The probe agency has also seized lethal weapons including swords along with pamphlets pertaining to the terrorist group ‘Shahadat is our Goal’. The accused had created various social media groups, especially on WhatsApp and were disseminating materials advocating violent jihad, including videos and speeches of Sri Lankan IS (Islamic State) leader Zahran Hashim.
