Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli on September 20 in a function marking the fourth Constitutional Day and National Dayat Kathmandu of Province No.3 stated that the Government is not immediately amending the Constitution, reports Himalayan Times. According to PM Oli, the Government would do the amendments at the right time. This statement comes at a time when marginalized communities like Madheshis and Janajatis declared constitution Day as ‘Black Day’.
Separately, Chief Minister of Province 2, Lalbabu Raut and his Minsters of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP-N)ditched the Constitution Day celebrations in Janaki Temple at Dhanusa District of Province No.2 on September 20 to show their protest, reports Himalayan Times. Cadres of RJP-N, one of the allies in the Government of Nepal wore black bands around their heads and chanted anti-Constitution slogans in protest of the ‘discriminatory’ provisions in the Constitution.
