Police in West Garo Hills recently arrested a person after recovering substantial amount of arms and ammunitions during a vehicle search operation at Nengkalgre village in West Garo Hills District, reports The Shillong Times on October 23. The weapons recovered include one 7.65mm pistol, one magazine, three rounds of 7.65mm of ammunition, half kilo gram of suspected explosive materials, two detonators with wires and one mobile phone.
Separately, Director General of Police (DGP) in Charge of Meghalaya on October 22 stated that the remaining cadres of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) ‘are looking for something from the government’ before they decide to come over ground, reports The Sentinel on October 23. According to the DGP, ‘Police cannot decide on any safe passage for these HNLC cadres but if anything, it has to be a political decision’.
