The Odisha Police busted an ammunition dump suspected to have been used by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) for illegal manufacturing and repair of weapons in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected Malkangiri District, reports The Statesman on January 26. The Police said explosives and arms were seized from the ammunition dump site at Tulsi Pahad under Mathili Police limits in Malkangiri District. The dumped ammunition, including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), was intended to target civilians and Police forces, said a senior Police official. “On the basis of specific information received, an intensive search and area domination was conducted by Malkangiri Police in Jajbhata area (Tulsi Pahad) between Kirmiti and Katuapadar villages, resulting in uncover of one major Maoist dump”, Police said.
Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including a woman, surrendered before the Police in Swabhiman Anchal in Malkangiri District of Odisha on January 26, reports daijiworld.com. The surrendered Maoists are identified as Manoj alias Mati Madhi (24), Pandu Kabasi (27) and Aite Karttami (21), and each of them carrying a cash reward of INR 100,000 on their heads, were active members of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) of the CPI-Maoist. The three surrendered Maoists are residents of Daldali village under the Mathili Police Station of Malkangiri District. "Maoist activities have been reduced substantially in Malkangiri district. Three cadre Maoists surrendered before us today," said Director of Intelligence Sanjeeb Panda.
