One person, identified as Dharitri Sharma, Secretary of the Assam Wage Workers’ Union, with suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) links was arrested from his residence at Sonapur in Borkhola in Cachar District of Assam on November 7, reports The Print. Sharma had links with Maoist leader Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee alias Kanchan Da, who was earlier arrested from a tea garden under Udharbond Police Station limits in Cachar District on March 6, 2022. ‘Kanchan Da’, a member of the CPI(Maoist)’s central committee, was arrested from Cachar in March. He was tasked to set up a state-level committee of the banned outfit in Assam, and create a “red corridor” from a neighbouring country to other Left-Wing Extremism-hit states such as Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, according to Police.
In a separate incident, two persons with suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) links were arrested by the Army from Dibrugarh District of Assam on November 6, reports The Print. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Bitul Chetia said, “The Army apprehended the duo for suspected links with Maoists. An investigation is on.” One .22 pistol, one magazine and four rounds of live ammunition were seized from them.
