A soldier was killed when terrorists fired on the members of a polio team, employed in Spinwarm area of North Waziristan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on May 31, reports Geo TV. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), terrorists fired on the members of a polio team to disrupt the ongoing polio campaign in the North Waziristan District. The killed soldier was identified as 25-year-old Sepoy Saqib Ur Rehman of Mardan District.
A Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ‘commander’ of the Gandapur chapter was killed during a joint operation carried out by Security Forces (SFs), comprising of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), intelligence agencies, and the District police, in Kot Essa village under the jurisdiction of the Daraband Police Station in Dera Ismail Khan District on May 31, reports Dawn. Official said that the operation was conducted to arrest Mazhar Khan, a commander of TTP’s Gandapur chapter wanted by the law enforcement agencies in eight cases pertaining to the targeted killing of Police and other law enforcers. “As [Mazhar] Khan came to know about the raiding party has closed in on him, he opened fire. He, however, was shot dead by the raiding team in the retaliatory fire,” official said, adding “weapons were also recovered” from the slain militant’s possession.
