A special Police team comprising of 10 Policemen from the Special Operations Group (SoG) killed two most wanted The Resistance Front (TRF) militants, identified as Abbas Sheikh, the TRF chief for Kashmir and his deputy Saqib Manzoor of Barzulla, Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in an encounter in Aloochi Bagh area of Srinagar District of J&K on August 23, reports Daily Excelsior. Saqib was the man behind recruiting youth into militancy in Srinagar and Abbas Sheikh, a resident of Kulgam District, who joined militancy in 2005. Abbas was arrested twice but he got recycled into militancy and was TRF chief at present. Both the slain militants were involved in recruiting youth, lobbing grenades and killing political workers and policemen in Srinagar city in J&K, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
SFs recovered ten rusted hand grenades during a joint search operation conducted by Police and Army in a residential house of an individual identified as Mohammad Yousaf Mir in Gasla Dardpora Kralpora area of Kupwara District of J&K on August 22, reports Daily Excelsior.
Militants lobbed a grenade on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bunker at Ali Masjid in Eidgah area of Srinagar District of J&K on August 23, reports Daily Excelsior. One CRPF man identified as Pravin Kumar was injured in the attack and was shifted to hospital for treatment.

SFs comprising of Police and Army launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Hyderbeigh Pattan area of Baramulla District of J&K on August 23, reports Greater Kashmir. The operation was later called off as the area was found safe.
CASO was launched by SFs at Peth Seer village area of Sopore in Baramulla District of J&K on on August 23, reports Greater Kashmir. The searches are underway in the area.
