The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) may revive the People’s Consultative Group (PCG) to hold initial parleys if the Government of India agrees to hold talks on the issue of sovereignty, reports The Assam Tribune on February 5. Former PCG member Hiranya Saikia told the newspaper that the ULFA-I ‘commander-in-chief’ Paresh Baruah spoke to him over phone a few days back. “Baruah is not against the idea of talks with the Government of India. But he is of the view that talks should be held on the issue of sovereignty of Assam,” he added. PCG was a citizen's group in Assam constituted by the undivided ULFA in 2005 to initiate the talk process and act as a mediator between the Government of India and the outfit.
