Police, in two separate raids, seized a light gun, eight kilograms of explosives and arrested four persons in this connection in the port city of Chittagong on November 1, according to Daily Star. Kotwali police arrested Sumon Mia and Asgar Ali from a house at Love Lane and Imam Hossain and Karim were arrested from the West Madarbari area. Police sources said that Hossain and Karim are militants and have confessed to their involvement in the August 17 and October 3 bomb blasts.

Police seized one kilogram of RDX, 500 grams of ammonia and 500 grams of sulphur from a private courier consignment belonging to the Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Rajshahi district on November 2. The consignment was reportedly dispatched from Sylhet three days ago. Police also found a JMB leaflet titled ‘Invitation for United Islamic Jihad’ in the parcel. The manager of the courier service, Nazmul Hossain, and two employees, Abdul Khaleq and Noor Hossain, were arrested.

On November 4, Bangladesh Rifles personnel recovered 59 powerful mortar shells, a high-powered bomb, an anti-aircraft shell and a rocket hidden under ground in the Bangladesh-Myanmar border area under Thanchi sub-district of Bandarban district. Official sources said that the recovery is the biggest ever in the district and local sources said that the weapons belonged to the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), a Myanmarese rebel outfit.

A hand-written letter to this effect was received by the Dumuria sub-district Nirbahi Officer, Rakibur Bari, on November 6. According to Independent, six suspected cadres of the Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were arrested from the Bogra and Chapainawabganj districts on November 7. Rapid Action Battalion personnel arrested five JMB activists from Shibganj and Gomostapur sub-districts of Chapainawabganj during raids on their hideouts. In a similar drive in Bogra, the police arrested JMB activist, Saiful Islam, from a house at Bandighi village under Sadar sub-district. As per his statement, police subsequently recovered some Islamic books, trunks and plastic containers with liquid material from his house.

The Bangladesh Home Ministry has ordered security agencies to arrest Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leaders Shaikh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqur Rahman alias ‘Bangla Bhai’ as well as other absconding members of the outfit by November 10, according to Independent. The official order reportedly followed threats issued by the militants to foil the 13th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit scheduled for November 12 and November 13 in the capital Dhaka. Abdul Quiyyum, Inspector General of Police, said "The law enforcement agencies have already launched a special drive in the capital and other places across the country to arrest them."

The movement of many identified cadres of the Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), who had gone into hiding following the countrywide bomb blasts on August 17, have been noticed in various villages of Bagmara sub-district in the north-western Rajshahi district in recent times, according to The Independent. Many JMB cadres have restarted their organisational activities and during the last week of the Ramzan, these cadres reportedly attended a number of Iftar (breaking the fast) parties at various mosques and houses in Bagmara.

A cadre belonging to the suicide squad of the Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) exploded a bomb killing two senior assistant judges, Shaheed Sohel Ahmed, senior assistant judge of Nalchhiti sub-district and Jagannath Pandey, senior assistant judge of the Sadar sub-district and wounding three people in the district headquarter of Jhalakathi on November 14. Police arrested the bomber, Iftekhar Hasan Al Mamun and seized an unexploded bomb strapped to one of his thighs along with 24 leaflets of the banned outfit. Daily Star reports that the judges were driving to the court by an official microbus from the government staff quarters and had stopped on the way to pick up another judge. The JMB cadre appeared on the scene and after attempting to hand over some leaflets to the judges, hurled a bag at the microbus, which exploded killing Judge Sohel Ahmed on the spot. Judge Pandey died on way to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital. Daily Star further reports that the arrested JMB cadre has confessed before a magistrate that he is a member of the JMB’s suicide squad.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel on November 24 arrested two Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leaders with some explosives and bomb-making materials from two separate houses in the Dingadoba and Chhoto Bangram areas of Rajshahi city. They were identified as Jahangir Alam alias Abidur of Lalpur in the Natore district and Abdur Rahman alias Shaikh Khalid of Naldanga, both responsible for the August 17 bomb blasts in the Chapainawabganj district. Currency notes worth Taka 20,000 were also recovered from them.

Jakaria Hossain Rony, the militant arrested from Rajshahi was a former activist of the Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami. Nine people, including two lawyers and a police constable, were killed and 78 persons sustained injuries in two suicide bomb attacks by suspected Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) cadres in the Chittagong and Gazipur court premises on November 29. In the first incident, a JMB suicide cadre blew himself up near a police check-post at the entrance to the Chittagong court and in a similar incident, another suicide cadre detonated explosives in a crowd of lawyers and their clients at the Gazipur bar association building. The suicide bomber involved in the Gazipur incident was killed, while the one involved in the Chittagong incident, identified as Abul Bashar, was seriously injured. Two notes found with Bashar termed the attack a preliminary warning to the forces working to ensure security of judges and announced to continue the Jihad until 'an Islamic welfare state is established'.

Separately, the JMB in the Netrakona district threatened to kill a local cable TV ‘Channel-I’ journalist, Zahid Hasan, and his family members if he files any further report against the outfit. In yet another incident, the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police (SP) in Comilla were also reportedly threatened.
