Meanwhile, Pakistan troops on September 3 violated ceasefire along the LoC in Kupwara District, adds Daily Excelsior. However, there was no loss of life. “The Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on our forward posts along the LoC in Karnah sector in Kupwara today [September 3],” an Army official said. He said the Pakistani troops fired upon the forward posts of Army at midnight and continued the firing till early hours of the morning. “The firing was effectively retaliated by the troops during which forward posts of Pakistani troops were targeted,” the official said. However, there was no loss of life or damage on either side. The officer said that Pakistani troops resort to ceasefire violations to facilitate the infiltration of militants into Kashmir. He, however, said that Army is on high alert to foil any infiltration attempt. He added that the security forces launched searches in the area to ensure that no militants infiltrated under the cover of firing by Pakistani troops. The officer said that there are over 400 militants waiting on the launch pads in PoK ready to infiltrate. However, the Army is on high alert to foil their designs. He said that the militant leaders across want infiltration of more and militants before the onset of winter.

A Police vehicle was torched and six cops were injured as violent protests and clashes broke out across Kashmir Valley on September 8 after Friday prayers against violence on Rohingyas in Myanmar, reports Daily Excelsior. The protests which were called by Valley’s religious and separatist outfits two days ago prompted the authorities to impose restrictions in certain parts of downtown city Srinagar. Hundreds of people soon after culmination of Friday congregational prayers hit streets in Lal Chowk area of Anantnag District and resorted to stone-pelting on Police. Witnesses said the Police retaliated by firing teargas canisters but irate protesters cornered them at multiple places and thrashed many of them including an officer while many other cops managed to save themselves.A group of youth attacked an armoured vehicle of Police outside District Magistrate Anantnag’s office and damaged its glasses and window panes. The Policemen already abandoned the vehicle and later the protesters set the vehicle on fire. A Police spokesman in a statement said “some miscreants from a mob started pelting stones on the police and security forces deployment at Lal Chowk in Anantnag” today after Friday prayers. “These miscreants also set a police vehicle on fire. The miscreants were chased off by using mild force,” he said. The spokesman said six Police personnel including two officers identified as Deputy Superintendent (Headquarters) Anantnag Mohammad Yousuf, Sub Inspector Junaid Ahmad, Head Constable Gurdeep Singh, Constable Shabir Ahmad, Constable Bilal Ahmad and Constable Javaid Ahmad were injured in today’s Anantnag violence and they were shifted to hospital for treatment. Police said a case was registered and “investigation was set into motion to identify these miscreants”.Protests against violence on Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State of Myanmar broke out at dozens of places in Srinagar city and other Districts of the Valley. Police said the protests remained largely peaceful and only few incidents of stone-pelting were reported. In summer capital here, the protests broke out at Khanyar, Maisuma, Lal Chowk, Safa Kadal, Nowshehra, Hyderpora, Shalimar and few other places. The incidents of stone-pelting were reported from Safa Kadal and Nowshehra. All the four districts – Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag and Kulgam – of South Kashmir witnessed post-Friday protests and rallies against Myanmar. The protests remained peaceful and no violent incident was reported, the Police said.In North and Central Kashmir, protests were held at Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Budgam and Baramulla after Friday prayers but all of them concluded peacefully.

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) on September 19 arrested two LashkareToiba (LeT) militants, who were close associates of dreaded Pakistani militant Bahadur Ali, and had been helping LeT cadres to infiltrate into the Indian territory from the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla and Kupwara Districts, reports Daily Excelsior. The two militants, identified as Zahoor Ahmad Peer and Nazir Ahmad Peer were on NIA radar for helping Bahadur Ali and other cadre of the LeT outfit but since their full identity and address was not known to Ali, the NIA had to work a lot to identify and arrest them. Sources said that both the militants were called for interrogation by the NIA officers at their Sainik Colony office in Jammu District and immediately taken into custody as they turned out to be the same persons, who had figured in the interrogation of Bahadur Ali. The NIA is expected to shift both the militants to New Delhi on September 20 (today) for detailed interrogation after taking their transit remand from a Court in Jammu.Anticipating that the arrested militants might have helped more Lashkar cadre in infiltration and carrying out their activities, sources said it was in this context that both of them were being taken to New Delhi for detailed interrogation to ascertain LeT network in Kupwara District especially on the Line of Control. Bahadur Ali was among very few Pakistani militants, who have been captured alive by Security Forces (SFs) during the raids, which had helped security agencies to nail Pakistan’s direct support to militants operating in the Kashmir valley. Bahadur Ali’s case was later handed over to NIA, which had prepared a detailed dossier of Pakistan’s involvement in the militancy on the basis of disclosures made by Ali. Ali had disclosed as to how Pakistan army and InterServices Intelligence (ISI) were radicalizing local youth and pushing them into the militancy. He has also mentioned involvement of LeT commanders in training of the militants and helping them infiltrate into the Valley.

Jammu and Kashmir Police on September 28 said that killing of a Border Security Force (BSF) constable and targeting his family is desperation on part of militants after success achieved by Security Forces (SFs) against them, reports Daily Excelsior. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Nitish Kumar said that after huge successes achieved by SFs, militants are desperate to act. “So, there is so much desperation among terrorists to do something and you might be knowing that security forces in recent days achieved major successes at different places in north Kashmir, be it at Kupwara, Uri or at Sopore area. So we have achieved success in all areas and lots of terrorists have been killed and apprehended. As a result there is desperation and I will say that they choose a soft target. Martyring a jawan who has come home on leave is a shameful, dastardly and cowardly act and not only this but also injuring family members. They didn’t spare even his 50-year old aunt”, he said. Kumar said that Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants are involved in the killing of the BSF jawan. “Name of Lashkar-e-Toiba has come to fore after talking to injured and probe that we conducted. Around 3-4 militants carried out this attack and one Mehmood Bhai, a Pakistani resident, was accompanying them”, he said.
