Highly placed sources said that communication centre of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and arms and ammunition depot of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) were destroyed at Kail in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the surgical strikes conducted by Special Forces n September 29 where large number of militants including Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) “operational commander”, Shahid alias Arif Rahmani, were killed, reports Daily excelsior on October 6. Sources said that JeM and HM launching pads at Kail and Chilana were made of tin sheds besides two small concrete buildings and they were destroyed in the strike. The HM commander of the Kail camp across Baramulla, Gazi Sarfraz and his associates have been seriously injured in the attack. Sources said that at Kail 20-30 militants of HM and JeM, who were waiting for launching through Tanghdar sector were eliminated. Sources also said that at Chilana launch pad across Leepa Valley of Kupwara, eight militants were killed in the strike. JeM commander Shahbaz Adil is missing since then. At Dudniyal, LeT launch pad was destroyed and nine militants were killed. The camp commander Shahid alias Arif Rahman was seriously injured while Athumkam camp commander of LeT Dilawar Khan’s radio set is not sending any message which means he is either dead or seriously injured. The reports adds that Pakistan has brought in 100 more trained terrorists at launching pads along the LoC opposite Jammu and Kashmir with each launch pad of 10 terrorists being protected by at least 50 Pakistan Army personnel of Infantry division to save them from any fresh surgical strikes by the Indian Army inside PoK. National Security Advisor (NSA), who was one of the major brain behind September 29 successful surgical strikes inside PoK, is understood to have briefed Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on October 5 morning about new strategy adopted by Pakistan Government and Army in the aftermath (of surgical strikes) in which over 50 Pakistani militants and nine Pakistan army personnel were reportedly killed and many others left injured. According to sources, this was for the first time when Pakistan has come out openly in support of the militants stationed at the launch pads for infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, Pakistan army used to train and guide the militants and then leave them at the launch pads for infiltration. But after the surgical strikes, Pakistan Army has openly stationed its around 50 jawans at every launch pad to save the militants from Indian surgical strikes, sources pointed out and said that Army and Border Security Force (BSF) have been maintaining very high alert along LoC in Kupwara and Baramulla in Kashmir and twin border Districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region to thwart infiltration attempts.

Pakistan Army used 82mm mortars and automatic weapons in shelling and firing that started at Tarkundi area of Balakote sector of Poonch District and Manjakote sector of Rajouri simultaneously, drawing very effective and adequate response from the Indian side. Heavy exchange of shelling and firing lasted about three and half hours. It stopped around 8 pm and since then no fresh shelling or firing was reported from any part of the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch Districts. Some of the mortar shells fell close to civilian population at Naika Panjgrain, Rajdhani and Khori Narh in Manjakote area of Rajouri District. The Border Security Force (BSF) has gunned down 15 Pakistan Rangers personnel and destroyed their two dozen Observation Towers and Border out Posts (BoPs)besides causing huge destruction to their set ups in the PoK [Pakistan occupied Kashmir] during the week, Daily Excelsior reported on October 28. Additional Director General of BSF Arun Kumar said the BSF has killed 15 Pakistani Rangers since the tensions flared up along the International Border (IB). He said several Observation Towers and BoPs of the Rangers have been razed to ground or damaged extensively in retaliatory firing by the BSF. Asserting that the way Pakistan shelling and firing was on, it was clear indication that the Pakistan Army has taken over the posts from the Rangers. “Firing and kind of ammunition used by Pakistan indicated that it was not their Rangers but army, which was firing upon Indian posts and forward locations,” he said. Kumar said the BSF has lost its third soldier after the sniping incident at Bobiya Post in Hiranagar sector of Kathua District in which Gurnam Singh was martyred followed by head constable Sushil Kumar and now Jatinder Singh, both of whom were killed at Abdullian in RS Pura. Three other BSF jawans have been injured, he added.Official sources said that Army has devised a new strategy to counter shelling from Pakistan side to save civilian population and own losses. The Army was now targeting and decimating Pakistani posts, which were raining mortars on civilian population. “Our troops are now going for the kill. They are decimating the posts of the Army across LoC [Line of Control] in Nowshera, Sunderbani, Mendhar, Balakote, Mankote and Tarkundi in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, which were worst hit by mortar shelling, to avoid civilian casualties. After decimating the Pakistani posts, the Army was not allowing Pakistani troops to re-construct the posts by engaging them. In number of areas, the Pakistan army jawans have been either killed or injured when their posts were decimated while others have run far behind for cover,” sources said, adding this strategy of the troops has saved many civilian lives as they were targeting civilian population with heavy mortars and automatic weapons. This way, sources confirmed, a number of Pakistani Posts have been completely destroyed and Pakistani troops have abandoned those areas as there was no other cover for them. The shelling in some of the villages has stopped after decimation of these posts, they said.

However, number of casualties on Pakistan side in the posts that were blasted in the afternoon was not known immediately due to continued shelling and firing that started at 9am and was going on when the reports last came in, trapping many civilians inside their houses. 20 Pakistan Army personnel and 15 Rangers have so far been killed while number of Pakistan casualties could go up after October 31 retaliation along LoC by the Indian troops in twin border Districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
