Pakistani troops on October 2 violated ceasefire along Line of Control (LoC) near Keri and Digwar areas of Poonch sector in Poonch District, killing two children and injuring 12 others, apart from causing damage to several houses and other structures, reports Daily Excelsior. Sources said that Pakistani troops started heavy shelling using 82mm mortars and firing with automatic and semi-automatic weapons targeting Shahpur, Kirni, Kasba, Digwar, Malti, Bigial Dara, Terwan and surrounding villages, located close to LoC in Poonch sector at 6.30 am when the people had just started moving out of their houses towards the fields and other places with the onset of Sun. “The people were trapped in the fields and other places as Pakistani troops used heavy mortars and firing, directly aiming the civilian population living close to the LoC,” sources said, adding that two children-a boy and a girl-were killed as mortar shells exploded inside or close to their houses while a dozen other civilians were injured, four of them seriously.The Indian Army retaliated shelling and firing very effectively to silence the Pakistani guns and save the civilian population from any further damage. Pakistan claimed that one of its Army jawans and two others were killed while three jawans were seriously injured at Neja Peer, falling opposite Digwar village of Poonch, in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliatory firing by the Indian troops.

An Army trooper was killed on October 3 as Pakistani troops again violated ceasefire agreement (CFA) on the Line of Control (LoC) and resorted to heavy firing in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch District, reports Daily Excelsior. Official sources said Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked firing on Indian Army posts in Krishna Ghati sector at 12.50 pm along LoC in Poonch district, which was retaliated effectively by the Indian side, leading to heavy exchanges. Exchange of shelling and firing continued for about half an hour. While one Indian trooper was killed, there were no other casualties or damage in today’s firing on the LoC, sources said, adding that Pakistani troops were also reported to have suffered extensive damage in retaliatory firing by the Indian troops but exact details of the enemy losses were yet to pour in.

Three Army jawans (troopers), identified as Naik Ripple Mapa, Naik Lijanthung Lotha and Sepoy Kiyeka Zhamio were injured in fresh round of mortar shelling and firing by Pakistan rangers along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector of Poonch District on October 4, reports Daily Excelsior. Sources said that a mortar shell fired by Pakistani troops fell close to a forward Army post in Poonch sector on October 4 morning causing injuries to three troopers, who were manning the post. Army personnel evacuated the injured and shifted them to hospital.In Poonch sector, forward villages of Digwar, Terwan, Malati, Bigial Dara and surroundings witnessed intense shelling from 8 am to 12.30 pm while villages in Balakote sector including Balakote, Balakote Forward, Panjni, Suhala, Dabbi, Kanga, Sandot and Gulad Top were shelled during wee hours of October 4 morning. Bhawani and Lam in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district received few mortar shells in the afternoon. Authorities ordered closure of educational institutions once again in the areas falling within the range of mortar shelling and firing in Balakote and Poonch Sectors. The panic-stricken people mostly remained confined to their houses in majority of villages falling on the LoC in Poonch District, which bore brunt of the shelling.Sources said India has been giving very strong and effective response to shelling and firing by the Pakistani troops and there have been reports that Pakistan army has suffered heavy losses, both in terms of casualties and infrastructure. Some forward posts and bunkers of Pakistan have been decimated.

The Army personnel evacuated him from the site of blast in an injured condition and rushed him to the hospital. He had sustained splinter injuries in the mine explosion, reports said. The Army jawan was part of the patrol party along LoC in Mendhar sector when he stepped over the mine, leading to a powerful blast in which he was injured.

Sources said five soldiers were also injured in the ceasefire violation. The Defence PRO said the Pakistani army resorted to unprovoked firing with small arms and automatics and the Indian Army retaliated strongly. The firing stopped in the afternoon. The slain soldier has been identified as Sepoy TK Reddy (21) from Obulapuram village of Andhra Pradesh. The porter has been identified as Mohammed Zahir (22), a resident of Kalali village in Rajouri District of Jammu and Kashmir.

Indian side retaliated effectively to silence the Pakistani guns,” sources said. A day ahead of Diwali festival, Pakistan army on October 18 created a war-like situation in three sectors of Balakote, Mendhar and Manjakote in twin border Districts of Poonch and Rajouri, directly targeting the civilian population with heavy mortars and automatic weapons, injuring eight civilians including a two year old infant, reports Daily Excelsior. Three vehicles parked by the people inside their houses were extensively damaged after being hit by mortars. An electric transformer was among the infrastructure that suffered damages in Pakistan shelling that started around 7 am and continued for nearly three hours, sources said. Indian Army retaliated Pakistan’s shelling and firing very effectively at all the places in three Sectors along Line of Control (LoC) causing heavy damages on Pakistan side. A number of forward Pakistani posts and bunkers were reported to have been destroyed in retaliatory shelling by the Indian side. Pakistani troops were also reported to have suffered casualties, both fatal and non-fatal in massive counter offensive launched by the Indian troops.Sources said Pakistan army started targeting civilian areas, located near the LoC, in Balakote and Mendhar sectors of Poonch District at 7 am with 82mm mortars and heavy fire arms. Simultaneously, they violated ceasefire in Manjakote sector of Rajouri District, bordering Balakote sector of Poonch, at 7.30 am, leading to panic among the border dwellers. Intense mortar shelling was reported in Langiot, Balakote, Balakote Forward, Basooni, Darati, Suhala, Panjani, Goi, Gulad Top, Sandiot, Tarkundi and Kanga in Balakote and Mendhar sectors while Mangal Narh and Khori Narh villages were worst hit by shelling in Manjakote sector for almost three hours.
