Azad Baloch, a spokesman for Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claiming responsibility for the attack said that 10 security personnel had been killed and 17 injured in the attack, but FC and Provincial Government sources denied the BLA claim.

The team of six persons that went for the rescue of two senior government officials, who were earlier kidnapped on February 13, 2014 by unidentified militants from Tump town of Kech District, were also abducted from Gomazai in Turbat District on February 14, reports Dawn. The recovery team was headed by Assistant Commissioner, Dasht Naeem Ghichki and comprised two Tehsildar and three Levies’ personnel. Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) had claimed responsibility for the February 13 incident. Meanwhile, the Balochistan Government on February 14 contacted BLF to secure the release of its abducted officers, reports The Express Tribune. “Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch wants to avoid an operation by Security Forces,” Provincial Government Spokesperson Jan Buledi said. “Our priority is to secure the release of the kidnapped officials through peaceful negotiations,” he said, adding, “The use of force will be the last option.”

The Voice of Missing Baloch Persons (VMBP) head, Mama Qadeer Baloch, and his Long March from Quetta (Balochistan) to Islamabad (Punjab) has been threatened, reports The Hindu on February 20. Mama Qadeer has received a threatening telephone call from an unlisted number informing him of the decision to prevent the marchers from entering Rawalpindi and Islamabad and warning them that they will not be allowed to present their demands to the United Nations (UN). The march was undertaken to demand accountability for the 18000 missing persons from Balochistan, which VMBP organisation has documented.

A boy was killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast during the preparation of the Sibi Mela near the Mir Chakar-e-Azam Stadium in Sibi District on February 20, reports The Express tribune. Sibi Deputy Commissioner, Sohailur Rehman Baloch said it was an IED blast and refuted media reports that it was a suicide bombing. However, Dawn quoting Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Ali Nawaz reports that the boy was a suicide bomber who entered into the Sibi festival hall and blew himself up missing his intended target. "The strength of blast blew body pieces of suicide bomber into the air", the DSP said.

An unnamed Police officer said that armed militants attacked the convoy of Frontier Corps (FC) in Chah-e-Sar area of Turbat. He said the FC personnel quickly retaliated and five militants were killed on the spot. The officer stated that the FC recovered weapons from the possession of militants. He said that there were no reports of fatalities on the part of the FC.

The relatives of Balochistan’s missing persons, led by Abdul Qadeer Baloch (72) under the banner of Voice of Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), reached the end of their protest march on February 28 from Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan to Islamabad, reports Dawn. Qadeer started his long march with some families of missing persons from Quetta on October 27, 2013. He is to present a petition to United Nations (UN) officials in Islamabad and meet foreign diplomats to raise awareness of their cause. “We want to tell (the world) that people are being kidnapped every day in Balochistan, Districts are being bombarded and almost every day we are receiving mutilated bodies,” Qadeer said, adding, “We have no more hope in the Pakistani Government, which is why we want to talk to international organisations, so they can apply pressure.” Qadeer's son Jalil Reki, a cadre of the Baloch Republican Party (BRP), was found shot dead in 2011 after going missing.
