A civil society organization of the Kuki tribe, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), dispatched a memorandum to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding the trial of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland –Isak –Muivah (NSCN-IM) cadres for various criminal acts of murder, uprooting and displacing of the Kukis in the region, before negotiating with the outfit, reports Imphal Free Press. The KIM has since long been alleging that the NSCN-IM had murdered over 900 innocent Kukis, uprooted over 360 Kuki villages apart from displacing over 100,000 Kukis during the Naga-Kuki clashes.

Seven National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) cadres deserted their camp at Paithal in Khagrachorri of Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh and surrendered at the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters in the North Tripura district on March 12, according to Telegraph. They were identified as self-styled 'second lieutenant' John Lithungo, 'sergeant major' Jackov Lovingson, 'sergeant' Dickson, 'sergeant' Ashin, 'sergeant' Manush, 'corporal' Shetoy and 'captain' David Tpung. They deposited one AK-56 assault rifle, one AK-47 assault rifle, four M-21 rifles, one sniper and one 7.62 rifle, eight Chinese-hand grenades, 1,306 rounds of assorted ammunition and eight magazines. The report added that altogether 10 cadres deserted the camp on February 12, and on their way to India they had an encounter with 17 militants sent from the Paithal camp to chase them. Following the encounter, three of them were dragged back to the NSCN-IM camp while the rest seven managed to escape.

The outfit also asked the contractors, traders, and the construction agencies, now engaged in conversion of the Silchar-Lumding metre gauge rail track into broad gauge, to pay ransom, reports Telegraph. According to intelligence agencies, 50 NSCN-IM cadres led by Simlaisang, a self-styled ‘major’ of the outfit’s armed wing, are operating in the district. While a self-styled ‘captain’ John Tangkhul is the "area commander" in Haflong town, ‘sergeant’ Angu Lotha is the ‘chief’ of the outfits’s Mahur unit. The extortion notes reportedly bear the initials of Tangkhul.

State Home Minister in the floor of Nagaland Assembly on March 25 reveled that the total number of lives lost in the factional clashes in Nagaland has gone up to 270, while 159 were injured (March 2003 - March 11, 2007). Nagaland Home Minister Thenucho revealed that 270 lives were claimed with101 were from NSCN (I-M), 110 from NSCN (K), 25 from the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) and 35 were innocent persons. According to him, with regard to those injured, 45 were from NSCN (I-M), 61 from NSCN (K), 9 from the FGN and 44 civilians. Thenucho disclosed that altogether 378 clashes among different factions had taken place from (March 2003 - March 19, 2007), besides two incidents of assassinations, reports Sangai Express.

Atem, Emissary to the Collective Leadership of the outfit, stated that "substantial progress" was made in the discussions. He said both sides "respected" and "accommodated" each other’s views and added, "The problem would be solved in due course of time."
