On April 30, police personnel reportedly exchanged fire with cadres of the left wing extremist (also known as Naxalites) Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) at Peetarayi village in G K Veedhi mandal near the Andhra Pradesh-Orissa border in Visakhapatnam district. According to police, the exchange of fire lasted about 30 minutes but no one was injured on either side even as the Naxalites escaped into the nearby forest. A large cache of arms including 100 electrical detonators, four land mines, four claymore mines, one each DBBL, tapancha, musket besides five electrical wire bundles, two multi-meters, four camera flashes, a binocular, 12 kit bags and a diary written in Oriya were recovered by the police from the scene.
