The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres allegedly killed a tribal civilian, identified as Raman Tamarabi (40), in the cut off area of Balimela reservoir near Chintamchilika village in Malkangiri District of Odisha on July 1, reports The Hindu. It is alleged that a group of armed Maoists had abducted Tamarabi from Chintamchilika village on June 1, suspecting him to be a ‘Police informer’. His body was found in the forest near the village. The throat of the victim had been slit open. Some locals claimed that the body also had bullet marks. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Amitabh Thakur, in charge of south-west Police range, said no one had come out to report this murder, but the Police are enquiring into it. Maoists are observing ‘protest week’ demanding the end of anti-Maoist operations especially in the cut off area of Balimela reservoir and its adjoining area in Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh. This protest week observation call has been given by Malkangiri-Visakha-Koraput divisional committee of the CPI-Maoist.

Kerala Government on July 4 said it was committed to ending Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) threat but made it clear that the activities of the Left-Wing Extremists (LWEs) could not be suppressed through force, reports The Hindu. Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala in a Facebook post said that “the Government has no illusion that it can suppress Maoist threat by using force” but made it clear that the Government was committed to ending the challenges posed by the banned outfit. The government also did not want to crush any peaceful protest and violate the Human Rights of any person, he added. Referring to media reports that Maoist leader Roopesh, who is now in jail, had planned to stage a sit-in, the Minister said it was a welcome step as “the Maoist leader has chosen a peaceful path instead of violence”. “Our party held a people’s court which awarded death penalty to Badru [a DVC member of the Darbha area] and Hemla Bhagat [another Darbha DVC member and chief of Maoists’ military intelligence wing in the area]. Both of them have been killed for indulging in anti-people, anti-party activities. They were in contact with the police and were planning to kill some senior leaders of the party. They were also conspiring to surrender with weapons before the enemy [the police],” said Surinder, secretary of the Darbha Division of the CPI-Maoist, in a press statement on July 12. However, the statement did not mention anything about two other leaders — Hinge and Kosi — who have been killed by the rebels in the last week of June. “Our party never executed any of its cadres who wanted to go home. We only punish those who indulge in treachery and damage our party and the movement. We appeal to the people to continue this struggle,” said the Maoist leader.Further, Ayatu, secretary of the Malangir area committee of the CPI-Maoist, has been ‘detained’ by his own party men and has been kept in captivity in the Katekalyan forest in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada District, reliable sources have told The Hindu. Ayatu has been accused of facilitating the surrender of Maoist leader Kiran alias Sannu Potam on May 24 before the Dantewada Police. Sources told The Hindu that Ayatu reportedly uttered some “unpleasant words” against the highhandedness of Darbha DVC member and Malangir area committee in charge Nirmala.

Senior Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leaders put sharpshooters on the job to gun down a former journalist in Gumla District on July 9, 2015 to avenge his apparent role in putting a Maoist ‘zonal commander’ behind bars in June, 2015 the Jharkhand Police said after the arrest of three youths on July 15, reports The Telegraph. Interrogations of the youths, Md Nasir, Md Azad and Md Azim, revealed that Maoists believed Satish Tiwary, the journalist turned-farmer, was the prime mover behind the arrest of Prasad Lakra, a ‘zonal commander’. The murder of Tiwary, who was also believed to have facilitated the arrest of another Maoist with INR One million rewards on his head some years earlier when he was working for a vernacular daily, was planned meticulously. The three youths revealed they had been deputed to keep track of Tiwary's movements and kill him. Allegedly, a Maoist ‘area commander’, who identified himself as Birbal, had given the trio "mobile phones and other logistical support" to keep tabs on Tiwari and then kill him. The Police have seized four cellphones, including the ones used during recce and for making calls to the local reporters after last week's killing. Gumla Superintendent of Police (SP) Bheemsen Tuti said Tiwary's young nephew was seen as instrumental to Lakra's arrest, leading Maoist leaders to believe that the uncle helped the young man.

Thirty tribals from eight villages in Visakha Agency of Andhra Pradesh where the State Government is proposing to take up bauxite mining, have been warned by the Communist Party of India-Maoist’s (CPI-Maoist) ‘east division committee’ to come out of the bauxite rehabilitation committees and support the local people’s struggle against bauxite mining, reports The Hindu on July 16. The statement has names of 30 tribals on it and alleged that they had fallen to the Government’s plan to divide the tribals to facilitate bauxite mining in an easy way. Apart from the 30 persons named in the list some others are working secretly but all have been warned in the past through people’s courts, posters, banners and paper statements. In Jerrela alone people’s court was held three times but they failed to change their stand. They cannot bring disaster to their own people just for the sake of receiving a salary of INR 14,000 a month, Kailsam said and warned the government that would be held responsible for any action taken against the people the party had listed or those working secretly.

Ramanna, along with Pangi Dobulu (60) and Vanthala Sadhuram (15) were beaten up by the Maoists at the village before he was taken into deep forests. Ramanna was not an informer and also not responsible for the exchange of fire near the village one month ago in which a Maoist Suryam alias Sonu was killed, the Police said. In fact the deceased, was an educated person and waiting for teacher's job after completing DIET course, was away from the village for a long time preparing for the examinations. But a minute suspicion that he was an informer made the Maoists murder him, the Police added. On July 24 night, about 400 Maoists, militia members and sympathisers entered Gobrapada at around 10 p.m. They set off a tiffin box bomb in Pongi Jeenabandhu's house, destroying houses of Pongi Ramanna and Vanthala Lyko also. When they tried to set on fire Mariya Sonia's house, villagers resisted. The Maoists then thrashed the three persons and took away Ramanna with them. On July 26 information was received that he was killed.
