According to Hindu, police in the Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh unearthed on May 30 a dump consisting of a 12 bore Tapancha (locally made fire-arm), cartridges, grenades, medicines, compact discs and revolutionary literature of the Rachakonda Dalam (squad) of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). The Officer on Special Duty, V. Ravinder, told reporters that a combing party found two plastic drums in a pit on the outskirts of Polepally. The recovered material included a crude grenade launcher sachet, clay more mine box, 33 empty grenades, 900 igniter sets, two speakers, two CDs, six water bottles, 19 cassettes, large number of books and medical records.

On May 30, seven police personnel and a civilian were killed in a landmine blast triggered by suspected left-wing extremists (also known as Naxalites) of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) on Deori-Chichgad road in the Gondia district of Maharashtra. Two police personnel were wounded, while two others who were accompanying the police party escaped unhurt. Inspector General of Police (Nagpur range), S M Mushrif, stated that the police personnel were returning from Kadvanda dam when the incident occured at 4:00 pm (IST) in Salekasa administrative division. Driver of a private vehicle carrying the police personnel, Salim Gulam Aagwan, was also killed in the blast.

The Director General of Police (DGP) in Orissa, Bipin Bihari Mishra, has ruled out any plan to give arms to the people of Maoist-affected villages in view of the recent violence in Sambalpur district. However, he said that police will go to each of the affected village to restore the confidence of the people. All aspects, including the safety of weapons, will be taken into account before police decides in favour of arming the affected villagers, he added. The DGP reviewed the situation during a high-level meeting at Talcher and stated that focus will now be on blocking escape routes of the Maoists during combing operation. The DGP also indicated that a fresh request has been made to the Centre to include Sambalpur and Deogarh districts under the centrally sponsored security scheme.

On May 31, a 'commander' of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) outfit, Kameshwar Baitha, who was carrying a cash reward of Rs five lakh, was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) from Patna, capital of Bihar. Bihar Police chief, Ashish Ranjan Sinha, stated that Baitha, who was also wanted by the Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand Police in some cases, was allegedly responsible for the murder of more than 70 police personnel.
