Unidentified miscreants on April 12 hurled three crude bombs targeting a parked car being used by Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh during a visit to southwestern Khulna District, injuring three people including his driver, reports Times of India. The High Commissioner Pankaj Saran escaped unhurt as he was in a meeting with the local leaders. Assistant Police Commissioner Abul Kalam Azad said "We suspect that activists of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) exploded the bombs ahead of their planned general strike in the District to create fear among public so their programme could be enforced.”

JeI-ICS cadres enforced a half-day hartal in Khulna and Jaipurhat Districts on April 13. In Khulna District, JeI-ICS cadres vandalised 15 Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) buses and exploded six crude bombs after damaging the vehicles. During the hartal, Zahidul Islam (13), a student of Class VI of Gopalpur High School, sustained severe burn injury in the legs. At least eight people were injured as cadres of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), allegedly exploded homemade bombs near the main gate of Shahjlalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet District on April 15, reports The Daily Star. Police said the ICS cadres brought out a procession. When the Police tried to disperse them, ICS cadres attacked them, leaving two Policemen injured. The ICS cadres also vandalised a Police vehicle and a number of vehicles plying on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.Violence marked the first day of the 60-hour hartal (general shut down) enforced by ICS in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj Districts on April 22, reports The Daily Star. In Rajshahi District, ICS cadres vandalised a goods-laden truck in Kapashia area on the outskirts of the Rajshahi city. They also exploded homemade bombs in Kharkhari, Balia, and Shahmakhdum areas. In Chapainawabganj District, ICS cadres blocked Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid Road at Razarampur and Shibtala area in the Chapainawabganj town by burning tyres. At least three persons were killed on April 28 in a clash between the Awami League (AL) and the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) cadres that ensued after a group of JeI cadres attacked an AL meeting at Umarpur village under Shibganj sub-District of Chapainawabganj District, reports New Age. The deceased were identified as AL activists – Nurshed Ali and Nasir Uddin; and JeI cadre Bhabanipur Madrassah. The fierce clash also left at least 50 others injured. The deceased was identified as Mansur Prodhaniya (24), president of ward no 3 unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI). He was a student of a private university of city’s Uttara area. Seven of ICS cadres also sustained bullet injuries. Police arrested cadres at the clash. Abul Kashem (30), a member of the Railway Security Force, died when two young people exploded a crude bomb on his face on the platform at the Kamalapur Railway Station of Dhaka City. Two youths who were carrying the bomb were also injured in the blast. Police said two youths — Alam (18) and Aminul (16) — were entering the railway station through the rail tracks from a level crossing. As the two youths reached beat No 17 of the station, railway security guard Kashem challenged them. Sensing danger, Aminul hurled the bag containing the bomb at the face of Kashem and soon it went off with a big bang, killing Kashem on the spot and injuring Alam and Aminul themselves.

One of the seven students injured in a bomb blast at a Hefajat-e-Islam (HeI) leader’s madrasa (religious seminary) in Chittagong city of Chittagong District on October 7 succumbed to his injuries on October 8 (today), reports The Daily Star. The deceased is identified as Habib and the injured persons as Nurun Nabi, Muhamad Karim, Muhamad Amanullah, Muhamad Jabbar, Muahamad Abdullah, Muahamad Khalek, all students of fatwa department of the madrasa. After the explosion, Police visited the spot and found traces of huge explosives, including more than 30 hand grenades in the room where the explosion took place. The madrasa was established by HeI Nayeb-e-Ameer (Deputy Chief) Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, also suspected cadre of banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami Bangladesh (HuJI-B).
