Police arrested eight militants of the Hizbut Tawhid, including the Meherpur district chief of the outfit Anisur Rahman at Gangni sub-district on April 13 in separate incidents, reports Daily Star. From Anis' house at Harbhanga village, firearms, bomb-making materials, a sword and books on Jihad were recovered. Local sources said that the outfit has been active at Debipur, Chatian, Bauot, Harbhanga, Karamdi and Katdah villages under the Gangni sub-district for the last eight years.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel on April 30 arrested a front ranking leader of the Lal Pataka faction of the Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), Kafil Mostafa, from from Mirpur Section-1 in the capital Dhaka, reports Daily Star. Acting on his confession, RAB personnel recovered some firearms, including an SLR, an SMG and 17 bullets hidden underground at Pirpur Primary School ground on May 1. Police sources said that Kafil, a resident of Char Balarampur village in the Pabna district, is a central leader of the PBCP and a contemporary of Kamrul Islam Master, founder of the outfit.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested seven members of a little known militant outfit, the Hijbe Abu Omar (HAO) from different places in and outside the capital Dhaka since March 29. According to Daily Star, while tracking an abduction incident, personnel arrested HAO member Mahadi Hasan alias Kwafi at the city's Badda area on March 29. Following Kafi's statement, Abu Yusuf alias Sagar alias Shourav and Nazmul Haque were arrested from different places in the capital. Acting on information extracted from the three detainees, RAB personnel with the aid of local police, recovered two revolvers, a shutter gun and 10 bullets from Mohammad Bayezid, caretaker of Nurul Ulum Jamia Madrassa (seminary) in Bhaluka. Subsequently, explosives and other materials, enough to manufacture four homemade grenades were recovered from Akramuzzaman, imam of Sardabari mosque at Shaestabad in Barisal city on April 4.

Villagers of Jhoudia in the Sadar sub-district of Kushtia district caught a Gono Mukti Fouz (GMF) cadre, Abdul Kuddus, along with a double barrel rifle and five bullets from a house and handed him over to the police on August 10, reports Daily Star. Two of his accomplices, however, managed to escape. Kuddus hails from Kalicharanpur village and is a top cadre of the outfit apart from being a close associate of the outfit’s leader Azibor Rahman. He is an accused in several cases filed with the Jhenidah and Kushtia police stations.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested four militants of the Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) along with ten kilograms of explosives and ten grenades from the Mirpur area in national capital Dhaka on August 2, reports New Age. They were identified as Ishak Sheikh of Gopalganj district, Rafiqul Islam of Jamalpur district, Khalilur Rahman of Rangpur district and Mohammad Anis of Bogra district. A soldering iron, a coil of soldering led, a drill machine, an emitter, four pressure switches, two capacitors, two metres of electric wire, one 1.5 volt battery and three books on jihad were also recovered from their possession. RAB has been raiding several places in Dhaka since August 1 after receiving information that JMB militants have set up some hideouts.
