Two persons including a Policeman, were injured in a gunfight between Police and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres at Moyla Khana Jhumjhumpur in Sadar upazila (sub-district) of Jessore District on April 22, reports The Independent. Police raided Moyla Khana area in morning at about 3:30 am on information that a group of JeI men were gathering to hold a meeting there. Sensing the presence of Police, Jamaat-Shibir activists opened fire on Police prompting them to fire back, said Police. Police also arrested three persons and recovered a shutter gun, one round of bullet and a sharp weapon from their possession. The others managed to escape from the spot. The arrested were identified as Mushahid- a leader of Fatepur union of ICS, Aminur Rahman and Habibullah.

A leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) was killed and seven other cadres were injured during a Police raid at a house in Satkhira town of Satkhira District on April 27, reports The Daily Star. The deceased is Aminur Rahman (30), town unit 'president' of ICS. Police raided a house near Kamalnagar graveyard while 50-60 ICS cadres were holding a meeting to carry out violence. Police on April 29 found a bag with an AK-22 rifle, two magazines seven bullets, 10 detonators and 10 packets of powerful explosive materials in Dhaka city's Kamalapur Railway Station, reports Daily Star. The bag was left on a pile of slippers at the station, said Abdul Mazid, Officer-in-Charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station. An identity card was found in the bag, which belonged to Shamim alias Abdullah arrested the day before along with Nurul Islam after a similar bag was recovered from their overhead luggage rack in a Dhaka-bound train from Chittagong. Abdul said he suspected there was a connection between the two bags recovered in the two consecutive days. Meanwhile, a Dhaka court granted Police 10 days' remand of the arrestees.

Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militant, Rakib Hasan Russell alias Hafez Mahmud was killed in crossfire at Mirzapur sub-District of Tangail District on February 24, reports The Daily Star. Rakib was one of the three JMB men who were snatched from prison van in an ambush on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on February 23. He was captured five hours later when his getaway car crashed. On information that some JMB men were hiding at Beltoli Ceramic’s area in Mirzapur sub-District, a joint team of Mymensingh and Tangail Districts Police took the handcuffed Rakib there. Rakib got injured during the half-an-hour-long gunfight and was taken to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital, where he was declared dead. Three Policemen, Golam Moula, Mohammad Asaduzzaman and Mozammel Haque, were also injured in the incident. One shotgun, one bullet and three bullet shells were recovered from the scene.

RAB spotted six more underground bunkers there, but found nothing in those so far. Officials said they recovered 184 rocket shells (40mm) and 153 chargers abandoned in one bunker at the hillock of the reserve forest, some 130km off the capital, during the raid. The ammos were wrapped in polythene and there was nothing written about the manufacturing country on the shells, said Colonel Ziaul Ahsan, Additional Director General (operations) of RAB, who took part in the drive. TripuraInfo reports that it is suspected that the National Front of Tripura (NLFT) had buried the weaponry. RAB sources added that there might be more ammunition. The source of the ammunition will be known after further investigation, said sources adding that the RAB officials were preparing to conduct the drive for several days in Satchhari area.

Those had been stored in a bunker. RAB also found oil used for cleaning firearms and discovered two more empty bunkers, as it resumed a search operation deep into the reserve forest in the morning for the seventh consecutive day. RAB first laid its hands on 184 anti-tank rocket shells (40mm) and 153 rocket charges on June 3 inside a bunker at a hillock of the forest. Six more bunkers were found on that day but they were empty. The next day (June 4) law enforcers found two more bunkers piled with a cache of arms and ammunition. Earlier, RAB Media Wing Director Habibur Rahman said the arms and ammunition recovered in the forest were apparently similar to those recovered in Chittagong in 2004 and Bogra in 2003.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the chief coordinator of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and his four close aides from Sadar sub-District railway station of Sirajganj District on October 31, reports The Independent. 49 primary detonators, 26 electronic detonators, four time bombs, 10 kg of power gel, 155 different kinds of circuits, 55 jihadi books and a power regulator were also recovered from their possession. The arrestees were identified as JMB chief coordinator Abdun Noor and cadres Noor Islam Sagor, Nuruzzaman Arif, Abul Kalam Azad and Faruk Ahmed. During preliminary interrogation, the JMB operatives confessed that they were planning to carry out large-scale bomb attacks across the country, particularly in Dhaka city.

Police filed the case naming 30 ICS leaders and cadres, including president of ICS, Sohrawardy Hall unit, Abdul Hakim and General Secretary Firoz Alam; and also against 12 others who remain unidentified. Police conducted a drive at an ICS rented house named "Dwip Manzil" on the campus and recovered several petrol bombs, huge iron rods, sticks, stones and seven Jihadi video cassettes. There were 14 sacks of explosives, 112 rocket launchers and 48 chargers of rocket launchers among the weapons. RAB found the arms and ammunition from a bunker built under a goat-shed of one Ajit Barma at Tripura Palli in the forest. The reserve forest is about three kilometers away from the Indian state of Tripura. The RAB team is yet to confirm the owners of the firearms and ammunition.

The three HuJI-B militants, identified as Saiful Islam (24), Shafiqul Islam Shafiq (35) and Mohammad Hasanullah (24), were arrested from Rampura area on September 24 along with explosives, bomb-making substances and electronic circuits used for remote-controlling explosions. Police told that the trio was working to organize Rohingyas with the aim of carrying out destructive activities in Myanmar.
