Left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the People’s War Group (PWG) blasted a cinema hall belonging to a ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader at Timmapuram village in Kurnool district during the Statewide bandh (general strike) on January 18. The strike was called by them to protest against the alleged fake encounters. Official sources said approximately 16 Naxalites equipped with sophisticated weapons came to the village and after forcing the theatre manager and staff out blasted the theatre. The owner of the theatre, A V Subbareddy, is the chairman of the Rural Irrigation Development Corporation and a close associate of the Nandyal Member of Parliament (MP) Bhooma Nagi Reddy.
