A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Saybo alias Ranu, carrying a cash reward of INR 800,000 on his head was killed in an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) in a forested area between Kutru and Ketulnar under Kutur Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 16, reports The Pioneer. A joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Police launched a combing operation in the said area. On seeing the SFs, Maoists opened fire resulting in a gun-battle in which the Maoist was killed. Ranu was a‘commander’ of the Maoists’ Farsegarh Action Squad and ‘Deputy Commander’ of Farsegarh LOS (Local Operating Squad). Pistol rounds, arrow bombs and daily use items were recovered from the spot.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed a Police Constable – Sannu Punem, after abducting him from Pondum village under Bhairmgarh Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on March 20, reports The Pioneer. He was abducted on March 20 evening and his slain body was found on March 21 morning near a rivulet close to nearby Keshkutul village. Punem, who was posted at the Gangaloor Police Station in the District, was on leave and had gone to Pondum village. “Prima facie, it seems he was killed with sharp-edged weapons”, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sundarraj P. said adding that a search operation has been launched in the area to trace the Maoists.

An exchange of fire took place between Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres and District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel near Malameta village in Tadoki Police Station limits in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh on April 20, reports Dainik Bhaskar. DRG personnel from Kondagaon and Narayanpur Districts were conducting search operations on the inputs of Naxals [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] being present in the area. The CPI-Maoist cadres opened fire on Security Forces (SFs) in the forest and fled under the cover of forest in the middle of the firing. DRG personnel have recovered a rifle and some everyday items from the forest during the search after the firing stopped, said Antagarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Kaushalendra Patel.

Security Forces (SFs), comprising District Reserve Guard (DRG), killed a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) local ‘military intelligence in-charge’, identified as Kosam alias Kosa, in an encounter in the forested terrain of Neelawaya in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh early on April 20 (today), reports The Hindu. Kosam, a resident of Mallapara in Neelawaya, and was active in the CPI-Maoist for the past 15 years. He was also the Malangir ‘area committee member, ACM’, and was wanted in connection with 15 crimes involving Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] actions. A pistol and a country made Bharmar, a muzzle-loading gun and three kilograms of Improvised Explosive Device (IED), backpacks, medicines and other items of daily use have also been recovered from the encounter site. Following information about the presence of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Malangir Area Committee ‘chief’ Somudu, Kamlesh Santosh Mukesh, ‘area committee member, ACM’, Lakkhe and others around 10-12 armed cadres of the Malangir Area Committee in the hill of Tikan Pal Gacha Para under Kirandul Police Station area, a search operation was launched by a joint party of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) in Dantewada District in Chhattisgarh on April 18, reported Glibs. Seeing the Security Forces (SFs) the Maoists fled the Maoist camp and the SFs recovered seven Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] literature copies, cooking utensils, two pieces, flashlight, mirror, brush, toothpaste, soap and other daily use materials from the Maoist camp.

A group of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans defused a landmine planted by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in Malkangiri District of Odisha on May 4, reports KalingaTV. The CPI-Maoist operations were foiled by the CoBRA jawans in the Minapa Jungle of Sukma District in Chhattisgarh, bordering Malkangiri District. Security Forces (SFs) were on their way for combing operation in the area. CPI-Maoist cadres planted more than 10 kg landmine in the jungle as they targeted the SFs who were on operation. The SFs recovered the landmine with the help of the metal detector and destroyed it by exploding it and the search operations have been intensified by the Police after the detection of the landmine.

In the first incident, Security Forces (SFs) which included Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Police arrested two CPI-Maoist cadres identified as Veti Handa and Veti Deva from forests of Bodagubali under Errabore Police Station limits in Sukma District. The arrested were involved in arson activities in Errabore and are residents of Bodagubali. In the second incident, Police forces from Bheji Police Station in Sukma District and other SFs arrested four CPI-Maoist cadres identified as Muchaki Baman, Sunnam Lachcha, Madkam Kosa and Madvi Bamun were arrested. All these were involved in the murder of two assistant guards, said Konta Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Sachindra Choubey.

The Security Forces (SFs) killed two women cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in a gun battle in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on December 18, reports The New Indian Express. Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava, said, "On a tip-off a team of Dantewada district reserve guards (DRG) was out on search operation. When the forces arrived close to the forested terrain of Gonderas near Aranpur, the rebels opened fire resulting into an exchange of fire. The forces later recovered two female bodies of the banned outfit from the encounter site." The slain bodies were identified as Hidme Kohrame, Mallanger ‘area committee member, (ACM)’ of Darbha Division and Pojje, head of Chetna Natya Mandli (CNM), the outfit's cultural troupe, in Nilawaya of Mallanger area committee. Kohrame and Pojje carried the reward of INR 500,000 and INR 100,000 respectively on their heads. The SP said that the SFs also recovered three locally-made rifles, ammunition, explosives and items of daily use from the spot and the search operation in the region has been intensified.

A senior ITBP officer said that the troops of 44 Battalion of ITBP got information regarding a memorial constructed by cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in the memory of their people who were killed in Police action or due to some other reasons in forests near Parvidih located at Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra border. The officer added, "A joint team of ITBP and Chhattisgarh police went to the location in jungle and demolished the structure after a long search operation." According to Sunil Dutt Superintendent of Police (SP), Bhadradri Kothagudem District, the Maoists were killed in a joint operation of Telangana and Chhattisgarh Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) that took place under Kishtaram Police Station limits in Sukma District under South Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. It was a joint operation by Telangana and Chhattisgarh Police and CRPF, and the incident took place around 6.30 AM to 7 AM, the Police official said, adding, they received a tip off that Maoists were trying to attack the forces and combing was stepped up.
