The combing operation to arrest RK, in the Andhra Pradesh Odisha border region, will continue, said Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra on January 6, reports The New Indian Express. Maoist literatures, 500 bags of rice and grenades have been recovered from the encounter site. Two suspected Maoist militia members have been arrested by Police in Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri District while they were crossing the river. One of them has received bullet injury and investigation is on. The blood stains found on the spot indicate the killing or injury of Maoists during exchange of fire, he added.

Police recovered three arms cache belonging to the Maoists in Khadisaru forest along Ganjam-Kandhamal border on January 24, reports The Times of India. The seized items included three Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), 793 rounds of ammunition (318 rounds of SLR, 240 rounds of .303 and 206 rounds of 9 mm, 19 rounds of INSAS and 10 rounds of .22 rifles), 30 magazines (19 for INSAS, nine SLR and two for .303), 20 charge clips, two batteries, two battery stands, two steel containers and belts. "The arms dumps were found during a search operation conducted jointly by Police, District Voluntary Force (Ganjam) and CRPF in the forest under Ganjam's Sorada Police limits," Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Southern Range, Amitabh Thakur. The locations of the arms dumps were identified by former Odisha Maobadi Party (OMP) leader Pramod Majhi alias Sagar. "We suspect these arms were looted from Nayagarh armoury of when the rebels attacked the district in 2008," said Ganjam Superintendent of Police (SP) Narasingha Bhol.

The District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel of Odisha busted six Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camps in a forest near Tekaguda village of Kalimela block in Malkangiri District on February 18, reports orissadiary.com. Huge quantity of explosives and Maoist materials were seized from the spot. Materials seized from the busted camps included pipe gun, pistols, magazines, explosives, gun and bomb making materials, Maoists dress, books, medicines and other essentials, said Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra. However, the SOG personnel failed to capture any of the Maoists as they had already fled from the camps.

The CRPF personnel while conducting a search operation found two barrels, a country-made pistol and bullets from the house of Jarman. “The house was locked when we went there. Odisha Police on July 27 recovered two bodies of suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres including a woman from Madaguda reserve forest in Kandhamal District, reports The Times of India. The duo might have been killed in the exchange of fire between the Security Forces (SFs) and the Maoists on July 26, Police said. SFs also recovered three rifles, including a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), two tiffin bombs with wires, three rounds of ammunition, several empty cartridges and medicines from the dense forest. "The bodies of the middle-aged man and woman were recovered by the Police during the search operation. Some more ultras are suspected to have sustained injuries in the encounter," said K.V. Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kandhamal District. Meanwhile, villagers of the Madaguda alleged that the deceased duo were a couple from Pangidipadara and died in police firing. Three cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), including two female cadres, were killed in an encounter with the Police in remote Burudi forest near Tandki village of Malkangiri District of Odisha bordering Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on July 31, reports The Hindu. Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjiv Marik confirmed the encounter. Based on intelligence reports that Maoists were holding a meeting at the remote spot as part of their continuing martyrs’ week observation, a team of security personnel that included personnel of District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) raided the area. When the Maoists challenged the security personnel through firing, the Police team retaliated leading to the killing of three Maoists and destruction of their camp. Rest escaped into the jungle. No injury or damages to the security forces was reported. Three country-made guns, one INSAS rifle, a Self Loading Rifle (SLR), live ammunition, grenades, materials of Maoist use including kitbags and Maoist literature were seized from the spot where the ultras were holding the camp.It was suspected that around 20 Naxalites were there in the camp when the encounter took place. Search operation is on. It is suspected that some more Maoists may have been injured in the incident. Identity of slain Maoists has not been ascertained.

The total haul included seven live grenades, four single barrel muzzle loading rifles, motor, weighing machine, recoil springs for use in manufacturing of guns, huge quantity of tools for use in manufacturing of guns, explosives and splinter, gelatine, cortex and electric wire, explosive powder, detonators, tiffin cases and batteries were seized. Besides, four tiffin bombs each weighing 5 kg, four pressure mines and Maoist uniforms and literature were also recovered. Sources said that the unit was being run by the technical unit of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), led by Ram Krishna alias RK. Police recovered around three quintals of explosive in semi-liquid form at Koraput District on September 25, and arrested a person for transporting them in an SUV, reports The Times of India. The arrested has been identified as Subala Choudhury, a resident of Chhattisgarh, said Police. Police said on September 16, Choudhury lodged a complaint in Koraput Town Police Station alleging that his SUV had been stolen. During search, the vehicle was found with the explosives in a forested area near Tota Ambaguda village, a few kilometers from Koraput, Police said. During interrogation Choudhury admitted to taking the explosive from Semiliguda. He works as a journalist for a vernacular daily in Chhattisgarh. "Choudhury said he was taking the explosive to Jagdalpur to sell it to some traders to be used in mining activities. However, investigation is on to find out whether there is any Maoist [Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)] link," Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), Koraput town Police Station, B N Korkora said. Police also arrested the person, who sold the explosive to Choudhury.

Stating that there was an exchange of fire between the Special Operation Group (SOG) troopers and Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres during a combing operation inside the Jugsaipatna Reserve Forest area in the Kalahandi District, the Superintendent of Police (SP) said the firing continued for about 30 minutes, reports The New Indian Express on October 6. It was learnt that a Maoist team led by Odisha State Committee ‘secretary’ of CPI-Maoist, Modem Balkrishnan alias Manoj, managed to escape from the operation site inside the jungle. The Security Forces (SFs) on November 9 recovered huge volume of explosive materials from the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) stronghold at Narayanpatna and its neighbouring areas in Koraput District during a search and combing operation, reports The New Indian Express. Acting on Intelligence input, the Border Security Force (BSF) troopers recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) of 15 kg each from Rajangapadar village under Narayanpatna Police limits. Another team from the 120 Battalion of the BSF deployed at Podapadar came across a CPI-Maoist hideout in Mangalpur area where one claymore mine weighing six kg was recovered. Banners, Maoist literature and other materials were also recovered by the paramilitary forces. A unit of the 118 Battalion of the BSF carried out search operation in Badakarali and Sanakarali villages under Bandhugaon Police limits where they recovered 150 detonators, 51 gelatin sticks, raw materials for splinters and barrels for single barrel muzzle loading (SBML) guns. Recovery of these explosive materials has foiled the plans of Maoists to attack the State forces and damage Government property, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Intelligence of BSF JC Nayak said. “We have almost wiped out the Maoist base in the areas and those trying to regroup will not be allowed at any cost,” Nayak added.

BSF personnel started combing operations in the forests of Pottangi, Narayanpatna, Bandhugram and Sunki simultaneously and found two Maoist camps in Mangalpur forest under Narayanpatna block and Pilikabitra forest under Pottangi block.
