Police said the two constables were passing by in a bicycle when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the wayside at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai under Lamphel Police Station exploded. The blast took place during an encounter with the cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). Officials said that three explosions took place first around 5:30 AM,then another took place around 10 AM and then again at 1 PM. However no casualties were reported. According to the Police sources low intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED) were used in the blasts. The blast occurred around 8:30 PM shortly after the "jan sabha" of Harminder Singh Jassi, who is contesting from Maur assembly seat, Police said. A day after three people died in a car explosion in Bathinda District of Punjab, three more succumbed to their injuries on February 1, reports dnaindia.com. Three persons who were standing near the car, namely Harpal Singh Pali, a Congress worker, Ashok Kumar and his daughter Barkha, died on the spot. More than 12 persons were rushed to the nearest hospital with serious injuries and three of them Jaskarn Singh Jappi, Rattandip Singh and Subhash Singla succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in the local hospital. Eight people injured in the incident are still undergoing treatment in different hospitals in the city. A FIR was registered under Section 302, 307, 436, 427 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).Oneindia.com adds that the blast was a targeted terror strike, investigators have prima facie concluded. The presence of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and the strategic manner in which it was placed has led the Police to believe that the blast was a targeted terror strike. Investigators have, however, refused to name any one organisation responsible for the blast. From the blast site, the Police have recovered IEDs and also a pressure cooker in which the bomb had been placed. Officers inspect the vehicle in which the blast took place. The Police say that once the forensic report is out, there would be more clarity. "We have sent the material collected from the spot for forensic analysis.

Acting on specific inputs, the joint team had launched a search operation towards Tamodi and Madpal villages under Mirtoor Police Station limits, Police said. In first incident, when the patrolling team reached near Tamodi village, a few Maoists triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast and attempted to flee from the spot. Of them, Pandru Kadti (36) and Somru Potam (20) were arrested after a chase and wire and a battery (used in detonating explosives) recovered from their possession. The incident took place when the victim, Karko Kanna (70), had gone to an agriculture field for farm-related work in Kansaram village under Kistaram Police Station limits, Sukma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Meena said. In the first incident, one CPI-Maoist cadre was killed and three District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel were injured in an encounter between SFs and Maoists at Gognuda-Mudopara forest under Phulbagdi Police Station in Sukma District. Special Director General of Police (SDGP, anti-Naxal operations), DM Awasthi, said that as DRG team was approaching the Maoists, the rebels triggered a landmine blast and indefinitely opened fire at the operation team. He added, three personnel were injured in the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast and a Maoist cadre was killed in the encounter that ensued soon after the explosion.
