Rymbai is reported to have responded positively to the offer made by the Assam-based United People's Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) for peace talks in the Block I and Block II areas along Assam- Meghalaya border, reports Shillong Times. President Pervez Musharraf said on February 19 that the attack on the Samjhauta Express would not be allowed to sabotage the ongoing peace process with India, Daily Times reported. “Such wanton acts of terrorism will only serve to further strengthen the resolve to attain the mutually desired objective of sustainable peace between Pakistan and India,” Gen. Musharraf said in a statement. As reported earlier, at least 66 people, including some Pakistani nationals, were killed in explosions reportedly set off by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in two coaches of the Delhi-Attari special train for Lahore in Deewana near Panipat (in the Haryana State of India), about 100 kilometers from Delhi. The train runs non-stop from Delhi to Attari where the passengers are shifted to the Samjhauta Express, which goes to Lahore after customs and immigration clearances.

The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) refused to submit the charter of demands as a precondition for initiating peace talks with the Union Government. Telegarph quotes Basumatary alias B. Swmkhwr, the 'secretary-general' of the outfit, as saying, "It is difficult for us to accept this....If it is really interested in negotiations, the charter cannot be the precondition. Informal preliminary talks would have been more fruitful. That would have helped both the parties to know each other's stand and exchange opinions. That always eases the tension. The core issue could be taken up for discussion thereafter. The Centre knows that we have been fighting for the last 20 years for the liberation of the Bodos."
