While four insurgents were killed in the jungle bordering Palpa and Gulmi districts on March 19 morning, one each were shot dead in the capital Kathmandu and in Dailekh, a day earlier. Reports added that an unspecified number of insurgents sustained injuries in the Palpa operation. Earlier reports held that 40 policemen were killed in the attack. An estimated 1,100 insurgents were reportedly involved in the attack that lasted for nearly five hours. It has been conformed that two Maoist insurgents, too, were killed during the attack. However, Minister of State for Home Devendra Raj Kandel, who visited the incident-site, said 70 insurgents are feared dead. Reinforcements have been rushed-in and intensive combing operations are in progress, when reports last came in. The police post, being manned by 74 personnel, has been completely destroyed and an unspecified number of weapons were looted. Giving the break-up of police fatalities, the Home Ministry said Inspector Krishna Bahadur Shrestha, a Sub-Inspector, three Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 13 head constables and 31 constables were killed in the attack.
