Media reports quoting a Defence Ministry statement said that security forces (SFs) have killed at least six Maoist insurgents in separate incidents across the country. The statement claimed that four insurgents were killed in Selangkhola in the Sindhupalchowk district on January 19 and one insurgent each was killed in Shukrabare area of Dhankuta district and Bakre area of Gulmi district on January 18. Also one civilian was killed in a land mine blast, allegedly planted by suspected Maoists in Narachang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Myagdhi district. Another Maoist insurgent was killed by SFs in Birbas VDC of Gulmi district on January 19.

Further, one police personnel and a civilian were injured in a bomb explosion while attempting to defuse the bomb at Fatehpur Village Development Committee (VDC) area in Seeshaiya. In the Kaski district, security forces’ killed six Maoists in different places, including Maoist cadres Kopila Ranabhat and Usha Lamichhane in Lwangkhel area, Kumar Bista and Nawaraj Neupane in the Khorakomukh area and Devendra Pokharel alias Sankalpa and Bijaya Raj Bastola in Armalakot. Meanwhile, four insurgents, including two women cadres, and a security force official were killed during a clash at Jakena in the Arghakhachi district. On the same day in Bara district, security forces claimed to seized a cache of arms and ammunition, including 20 pipe and pot bombs, six pressure cooker bombs, four single-bore guns and 15 kg gun powder from Sipalkavre and Selang Village Development Committees (VDC). Further, the Maoists have detonated a powerful bomb at the office of Royal Chitwan National Park in Nawalparasi district. However, no casualties were reported in the incident. Separately, in Tanahu district, Maoists set ablaze a mini bus belonging to a private company near Bhimad Bazaar on July 29.
