Maoist cadres seized 13 trucks of Nepali Army (NA) for two and half hours in Rajahar area of the Nawalparasi district on March 14 on the suspicion that they were carrying weapons which is against the cease-fire code of conduct, Nepal News reports. However, the Maoists released those vehicles after the United Nations (UN) Arms Monitoring Team, which coincidentally arrived at the scene, checked the vehicles and found nothing except foodstuff and clothing. Colonel Sagar Bahadur Thapa at the Nawalparasi-based NA’s Aridaman Battalion said those trucks were transporting logistic materials for the Army’s barracks from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi.

They forcibly took control of the vehicles loaded with newspapers at Bhaisepati in the Lalitpur district and also threatened the transporters and distributors not to deliver the newspapers. A group of about 12 YCL cadres entered the Bagbazar office of the weekly and asked Basnet to accompany them. However, after Basnet telephoned YCL’s central coordinator Ganesh Man Pun, the cadres reportedly left. Journalist Basnet had left the Maoist party three years ago.
