Dera Ismail Khan Police busted the network involved in two bomb attacks on Ashura processions and arrested four top members of the group, The News reported quoting a Senior Police Official said. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Dera Ismail Khan, Qazi Jamilur Rahman told reporters that four persons associated with the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were arrested and suicide jackets, detonators and explosives and ammunition recovered from their hideouts. Nine people were killed and 26 others wounded in a blast in Thoya Fazil on the ninth of Muharram. The next day another bomb went off in Commissionary Bazaar killing seven people and injuring over 138 others.

At least 18 senior members of two religious-political groups were arrested up as the Police launched a crackdown to arrest suspects involved in targeted killing incidents, reports The News. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Imran Shahid confirmed the raids but said eight persons were arrested. “Raids have been conducted to arrest suspects behind the targeted killings,” the SSP told. A source said that those arrested included leaders of the Ahl-e Sunnat- wal-Jama’at (ASWJ) as well as elders of the Shia community. Some of those arrested during the raids were identified as Usman Farooqi, Irshad Haideri, Siddiqullah, Shah Faisal, Jan Farooqi, Aurangzeb Farooqi, Mohammad Gul, Nasrullah, Sajid, Sajjad and Jamal who were held during raids in different parts of the city. The raids started in the morning. Heavy contingents of Peshawar Police as well as commandoes of the Elite Police Force participated in the raids.

Police arrested the group responsible for the Qissa Khwani bomb blast, with clues that they have links to foreign intelligence agencies, reports The Express Tribune. Addressing a press conference at Malik Saad Police Lines on October 29, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Najeebur Rehman said they arrested four people in a raid on a house in Sara Dargai, Mattani and recovered 840 kilogrammes of high-quality explosives. The men arrested include Niazbeen, Shiraz, Haji Habib and Asif, all of whom hail from Kurram Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) but have been residing in Mattani, on the outskirts of Peshawar, for the past couple of years. He said that upon interrogation it was discovered the group was directly responsible for the bomb blast in the Qissa Khwani market on September 29. One of the gang members, Suliman, had also been killed in the blast as he was too close to the device when he detonated it via remote control.

At least 98 suspects, including five Afghan nationals, were detained during joint search operations conducted by Police and Security Forces’ personnel in Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on November 7, reports Dawn. According to Police, operations were carried out in civilian areas of the city, namely Gulberg and Nauthia. During the raids, 98 suspects, including five Afghan nationals, were taken into custody. A huge quantity of arms was recovered from the suspects’ possession during the raids, Police said. In order to maintain peace and tranquillity in the city during the month of Muharram, operations would be carried out on a regular basis, Police added.

Three activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were arrested for their alleged involvement in manhandling truck drivers carrying NATO supplies to Afghanistan near Hayatabad Toll Plaza in Peshawar on November 29, reported Dawn. A private TV channel reported that PTI’s District General Secretary Younas Zaheer confirmed the arrest and said the workers were arrested after the party’s seventh sit-in in a row blocking NATO supplies in protest against the US drone attacks. He demanded of Police to forthwith release the workers as “they were protesting against the US drone strikes that killed many innocents and sabotaged the peace process in Pakistan.” The Provincial Police Chief Nasir Durrani ordered the Police to prevent protesters from stopping trucks.
