Eleven people were taken into custody on January 18 night following a raid conducted at the North Nazimabad area of Karachi (provincial capital of Sindh), reports The News. Police further revealed that 20 suspects were already held while the 11 arrested were found possessing weapons, contraband as well as stolen motorcycles from the Taimuria neighborhood. Moreover, it was revealed that the arrested suspects were also embroiled in offences like street crimes, drug-peddling and stealing motorcycles.Police further stated that the previously seized suspects are presently undergoing interrogation while their criminal records accumulation and document verification is also being conducted.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East, Azfar Mahesar at a press conference said three robbers ,Samiullah, Abdul Manan and Juma Khan, from the six-member "Afghan gang" were arrested with the help of technology and Police teams have been formed to apprehend the three others. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh Police on February 7 arrested a hitman of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for his alleged involvement in the targeted killing of a former Town Nazim of Liaquatabad, Dr Perveez Mehmood, from Jamshed Town of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports The News.Acting on a tip-off, CTD officials conducted a raid near the Jumman Shah Bukhari shrine and arrested Syed Babar Ali aliasMota. The initial investigation revealed that he was involved in the killing of Mehmood, who was killed along with his friend in North Nazimabad on September 17, 2012. The suspect also admitted his involvement in extortion cases and transportation of illegal weapons.

Police on February 10 arrested an alleged target killer, affiliated with the London faction of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-London) and involved in the killings of 42 people from Bahadurabad area of Karachi, reports The Express Tribune. The arrested suspects, according to the Police, is a Government employee and had allegedly been involved in the killings of Police personnel, excise officials, an education director and members of both his own and rival political parties. Details of the arrest were revealed by East Zone Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar during a press conference at his office. According to the SSP, Bahadurabad Police had arrested the suspect, identified as Sajid alias Chota Bona, in a raid on Sharae Faisal and seized a 9mm pistol as well as stolen motorcycle from his possession.SSP Mahesar said that the suspect was affiliated with the MQM-London’s Jamshed Town Sector and was an employee of the Sindh Department of Health. The suspect had confessed to his involvement in 42 targeted killings, starting from his first murder of a Policeman, Nabi Buksh in 1995.

A spokesperson for the Rangers said troops of the paramilitary force conducted targeted raids in Saeedabad and Baghdadi Colony areas and arrested two suspects identified as Rashid Rasheedalias Moosa and Jugaan Lal alias Kana.The arrested men were allegedly associated with the Lyari gang war and involved in cases of targeted killings, extortion and drug peddling. During a raid in the Sohrab Goth area, the Rangers arrested a suspect, Mohammad Arsalan alias Akhrot. He was allegedly involved in a number of extortion cases.The paramilitary force also carried out raids in Baloch Colony, Mehmoodabad, Model Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Awami Colony and Sohrab Goth where they arrested 12 suspects, identified as Imtiaz alias Lara, Waheed Ali, Zawar Hussain, Irfan Ali, Mohammad Jameel, Nawaz Ali, Mohammad Tahir Hayat, Abdul Kareem, Mohammad Ammar, Husnain Abbasi, Zaheer and Mohammad Iqbal, who were allegedly involved in street crime and armed robberies in various locations of the city.

Police arrested five alleged hitmen and facilitators involved in the assassination of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader and former Member of National Assembly (MNA), Syed Ali Raza Abidi from Lyari Town area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Daily Times. According to information available to media sources, five members of 11-member gangsters, which was directly involved in Abidi’s killing, were arrested from Lyari. Once arrested, the accused are said to have confessed to killing the late lawmaker on the political grounds by taking “wage”. As many as eight members of the gang were tasked to trace him while a trained rider along with the shooter was hired to assassinate him.

Bungalzai was commander of LeJ’s askari (militant) wing and was involved in several terror acts in Balochistan and Sindh. During an initial probe, he informed the investigators that Mufti Hidayatullah (now killed), Noman and Maqbool had planned the deadly Sehwan blast, while he had carried out reconnaissance of the shrine and passed on information to Mufti Hidayatullah.After the reconnaissance, Maqbool and Noman brought the suicide bomber, identified as Usman, to Sehwan, where he exploded himself on February 16, 2017, resulting in the death of 82 people and injuries to 383 others.

Rangers official Colonel Faisal Awan told that enemies of the State were destroying Pakistan’s peace and prosperity.The Rangers official also played a recorded WhatsApp call in which the suspects purportedly discussed the crimes including terrorist activities involving code words like ‘boxes’ for improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ‘aalu’ for hand grenade and ‘cassette’ for pistol. He said Saleem alias Belgium had set up the hit squad on MQM-L’s directives, adding that seven members of the target killing team were still at large. According to a spokesperson for the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), a member of a target killer gang, Ghufran Ahmed, associated with the Saleem Belgium group of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L), was allegedly involved in the recent wave of terrorism and targeted killings in Karachi. During the initial probe, the suspect revealed that he was a facilitator in an attack on an office of the PSP in the Rizvia area on December 23, 2018 and also conducted reconnaissance on the instructions of the ringleader Asif Pasha alias Major. In the attack, Azhar and Naeem alias Mullah of the PSP were killed while Fahad and Yasir wounded. Eight of the suspect’s team members had been arrested by Rangers on February 25.

Sindh Rangers arrested 17 suspects, including those accused of extorting money and committing robberies, during targeted operations in different parts of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on April 14, reports The News.A spokesperson for the paramilitary force said the Rangers’ personnel conducted a targeted raid in the Malir area where they arrested two suspects, later identified as Khadim Hussain, alias Magsi, and Abdul Hameed. The arrested men were allegedly involved in a number of extortion cases. The Rangers also carried out raids in the Korangi, Sacchal. Frere, Kalri, Nabi Bux, Mithadar, Kharadar, Garden, Baghdadi and Mehmoodabad areas where they apprehended 14 accused who were identified as Muhammad Tauqeer Saeed, Muhammad Umair, Syed Amaan, Faizan, Siraaj, Sanaullah, Muhammad Hussain, Muhammad Jibran, Muhammad Sohail, Rashid, Sajid, Daniyal, Ghulam Sarwar and Muhammad Irfan. According to the Rangers, the arrested suspects were involved in various criminal offences, including illegal sale and purchase of weapons, dacoities, and street crime. A suspect, Raja Muzammil, was arrested by the Rangers when they carried out a raid in the Mehmoodabad area. The Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) on May 1 arresteda Jundullah militantKhan Badshah, who went by the aliases Umer Farooq, Khan, Maviah, Bacha and Bihari, from Paracha Chowk area of Shershah locality in Kiamari Town of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports The News. The arrested militant’s name is also mentioned in the Red Book of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).The Rangers spokesman said that the militant had been working with Jundullah’s Haji Mumtaz alias Hamza Group. During the initial investigations, the suspect revealed that he and his accomplices had transported a large cache of weapons to Karachi from Waziristan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and that the weapons were used against the CTD in a 2007 shootout in Shah Latif Town. The suspect also disclosed that in 2007 he and his accomplices had committed a robbery at a bank located on Rashid Minhas Road and made off with PKR 1.7 million. In 2008 they committed a robbery at another bank and made off with PKR 3 million.During the same year they committed a robbery at a bank’s Malir Halt branch and made off with PKR 3 million, and on resistance they shot a security guard there. In 2010 there was an encounter in Shah Latif Town with the Police in which he managed to escape.In October 2013 he had targeted several persons in the Ittehad Town area and in 2017 he and his accomplices had committed a robbery at a bank’s Liaquat Market branch and made off with PKR 3 million, and on resistance they had murdered a Police official and two security guards. He is also an expert in making bombs.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG), East Zone, Amir Farooqi identified the held persons as Syed Matloob Hussain, a reporter of Daily Jang, Syed Imran Haider Zaidi, Waqar Raza, Mohammad Abbas and Syed Mohtasham. The Policeman, Jahangir, was killed when two armed assailants on a motorcycle shot him in Hijrat Colony within the limits of the Civil Lines police station. He was shot while he was on an intelligence mission before a combing operation in the area. While one of the attackers who killed the Policeman, Rehan Gul, was already arrested within two weeks of the incident; however, a key suspect, Noor Wali, went underground. Wali continued to move from one place to another as he first escaped to Buner, then Karak and then Kohat, and finally returned to Karachi after the passage of almost two months after the incident. As the Wali returned to Karachi, the Civil Lines Police arrested him on a tip-off and seized arms from his possession.

CTD officials said that they arrested facilitators of a banned militant outfit for their alleged involvement in transporting the suicide vests from Afghanistan to Karachi. Two suicide jackets that were confiscated from their possession. According to CTD in-charge Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ali Raza, each of the suicide jackets carried around four-and-a-half kilograms of explosives and they were hidden in two room refrigerators. The jackets were dispatched to Karachi from Afghanistan by the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA) to be used in major suicide bombings in the city, the DSP added.

Police recovered one hand grenade, a .222 rifle, a handgun and a stolen motorbike from him. The Karachi East Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar said at a press conference that Abdul Salam confessed to have killed 111 people during interrogation. He said Salam was involved in the killing of two army personnel, one Navy official, eight Policemen, Doctors, Government employees and women.
