Six persons, including five associated with the proscribed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) were shot dead in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on November 4, reports Dawn. Three persons, who appeared to be 'religious scholars', were shot dead in the Shafiq Mor area of North Karachi, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Muqadas Haider, said.Further, two persons were shot dead near Fatima Bai Hospital in Patel Para area under Jamshed Quarters Police Station in Jamshed Town on November 4, reports Dawn. An ASWJ spokesman claimed that all the five victims were associated with their group. However, Police officials said they were not affiliated with ASWJ and were part of a Deoband group.

Police on February 15 killed four criminals during an ongoing operation against criminals in the Katcha areas of Khanpur and Ghouspur in Shikarpur District, reports The Express Tribune. One Policeman, identified as Ali Gul Mahar, was also killed two others were injured in the exchange of fire. The operation was launched to recover three abductees, including a minor girl, from Thull abducted over eight years ago. However, the Police a woman, who along with five friends was kidnapped from Sehwan area two years ago. During the operation, the Police torched over ten houses and detained more than 10 suspects. Moreover, The suspects have been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

The Sindh Police killed 12 terrorists, belonging to al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), in two separate encounters in Pipri area and Gadap Town of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh on February 22, reports The News. In the first encounter, at least eight militants were killed in Pipri area of Bin Qasim Town. "Eight militants were killed on the spot while four others, who fled the scene, were killed in Gadap area," said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwaar of Malir District. In the second encounter, at least four militants were killed in Gadap Town. He further said that the encounters, which lasted several hours in a slum off the National Highway, occurred during a raid on a hideout after police received intelligence-based information that terrorists belonging to banned outfits had gathered there. The terrorists had been working jointly and targeting law enforcement agencies in Karachi, Rao added. Five of the deceased suspects were identified as Sohail, Khalil, Bilal,Talha and Abdul Salam. During the search operation the Police they found four pressure cooker bombs, suicide jackets, detonating cords, five hand grenades, ball bearings, five submachine guns, three 9mm pistols and hundreds of bullets.

According to details, Rangers personnel started a search operation in Manghopir on reports about the presence of some terrorists. The raid turned into an exchange of gunfire. “The armed men in the hideouts attacked the Rangers team when they were taking positions following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area; more forces were called in to join the operation and after an exchange of gunfire three terrorists were killed. They all belonged to a banned outfit.”" said the spokesman.

Personnel of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) personnel killed five kidnappers during an encounter on March 3 in Gulshan-e-Bilal area of Surjani Town in Gadap Town of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh and rescued a man kidnapped on February 28, 2016, reports The News. According to the officers Zahid Khan, a trader was kidnapped from his shop situated in Shadman Town, District Central. The kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of PKR 2 million which was later settled at PKR 0.5 million. The police after registering a case referred it to the AVCC for investigation. The police officers claimed that the accused had opened fire on the law enforcers; however, they were killed following an encounter. The abductors were identified as Mazharuddin (gang leader), Mohammed Tanveer, Fahim, Ain Ali and Rasheed.

Police claimed to have killed four militants belonging to Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) during an encounter near Inara Garden in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh on March 5, reports Dawn. Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar said that suspects were allegedly involved in the killing of security personnel and members of Shia community. “Suspects on seeing the police resorted to firing and in an ensuing encounter, four gunmen got gunned down,” claimed the SSP Anwar. Two of them were identified as Noman Akhter and Sohail alias Kanga. The militants were involved in the killings of traffic officials, Policemen and Shias. The District Malir Police claimed to have shot dead three Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists in Northern Bypass area of Malir Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh on March 9, reports The News. According to details given by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwaar, a Police team was attacked by four gunmen on motorcycles near a snap-checking picket in the Northern Bypass area. The Police retaliated and arrested three terrorists in injured condition, while the fourth one escaped. They later succumbed to their injuries. The CTD had raided a farm house in Karachi after receiving information of the presence of militants. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Junaid Shaikh revealed that the activity was carried out at a house. Upon seeing the Police, the suspects opened fire on the law enforcement personnel. Police retaliated by firing upon the suspects as well, killing two of them. The killed suspects were yet to be identified. In a separate encounter, Police killed one Lyari Gangster, Allah Bakhsh alias Chachu, in Lyari Town area. According to details, the encounter commenced when police began a search operation in the area and Allah Bakhsh opened fire at them. The suspect was a key suspect of the Lyari gang-war and Police claimed that he had been involved in the killing of 20 persons.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar of District Malir said that on seeing the Police approaching, the terrorists opened fire. The Police retaliated and after a brief encounter arrested three suspects in an injured condition. Later, three of the suspects succumbed to their injuries. A Kalashnikov and two pistols were recovered from their possession. SSP Anwar said one terrorist was identified as Iqbal Swati. They were wanted in a number of cases of target killings and kidnappings-for-ransom.Meanwhile, the paramilitary force seized a huge cache of weapons in Surjani Town area of Gadap Town during a raid on June 24, reports The News. The spokesman for the Sindh Rangers said the arrested suspect belongs to the militant wing of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). Two police officials suffered injuries in the operation. A huge cache of explosives were recovered, along with two prepared suicide-bomber jackets that were of Afghan make. Two Kalashnikovs, two 9mm pistols, hand grenades and 25 kilograms of explosive materials were also seized.
