The Militants fired indiscriminately upon the Municipal Councillors of Sopore Municipal Committee near Lone Building opposite SDH Sopore resulting in injuries to two Municipal Councillors Reyaz Ahmad Pir and Shams-ud-Din Pir and a Policeman Shafqat Nazir. Later, the injured Councillor Reyaz and the Policeman Shafqat succumbed to their injuries. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the preliminary investigation indicates that a local militant Mudasir Pandit of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) along with a foreign militant are involved in the attack.

The Raoghat Rail Project is a plan to connect South Bastar with Raipur through this project, which the Maoists are opposing. The Maoists also vandalized the pump house at the construction site. Along with this, banner-posters were also pasted there. Superintendent of Police (SP), Jaishankar Agarwal said that a few days ago, during the construction work, the Maoists had opened fire on the soldiers engaged in security, and now this event has been executed.
