A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an exchange of fire between Security Forces (SFs) and Maoists in a forested area under Tarrem Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 19, reports NDTV. While the Maoist was shot dead by the SFs, a District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel was injured after he invertedly stepped on an Improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the rebels during the operation. “Multiple gunfights took place between SFs and Maoists in the forests under the said Police Station around 450 kilometers away from capital Raipur. The team included personnel from DRG, Special Task Force (STF), Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Force,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sundarraj P said adding that “following one of the encounters, the body of a Maoist was found from the spot while DRG assistant constable Jogeshwar Paikra suffered injuries in an IED blast.” The SFs also recovered a 12 bore gun, uniforms, IED, Maoist literature, etc. from the site. The identity of the slain Maoist is yet to be ascertained.

Official sources said, militants triggered an IED at Shamshipora, Kulgam, when a ROP was passing the area on main road. The entire area has been cordoned off and a massive search operation has been launched to arrest the militants responsible for the attack.

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast of very low intensity took place near the Israel Embassy in New Delhi on January 29, reports India Today. No one was injured in it but some vehicles were damaged. The Delhi Police said the blast occurred at 5.05 pm at a spot about 150 metres away from the Embassy. Teams of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Delhi Police Special Branch, the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS), among others, were rushed to the spot to investigate the matter. Sources have told I that the Police have recovered an envelope -- which says "To Israel Embassy Ambassador" --near the blast spot. The envelope has been seized for analysis. The date of the blast (January 29) coincides with the completion of 29 years of diplomatic ties between India and Israel.

A jawan(trooper) of the Special Task Force (STF) was killed when a pressure Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), went off in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on February 7, reports The Telegraph. The incident occurred around 4.30pm near Peddagellur village when a joint team of Security Forces (SFs) was out on an anti-Maoist operation. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar range, Sundarraj P. said, “When the patrolling team was on way back after the operation, constable Mohan Nag inadvertently stepped on the bomb, triggering the blast that left him critically injured,” he said. Later, constable Nag succumbed to his injuries.

Police said, those travelling in the vehicle were mostly labourers, and three of them were critically injured and were rushed to the hospital. The victim has been identified as Budheshwar Nagesia (45), a resident of Judwani hamlet under Nirasi Panchayat (village level local self-Government institution) of Bishunpur Police Station limits, 75 kilometres from Gumla District headquarters. Nagesia had gone into the forest to graze cattle and collect firewood but was blown up after he stepped on an IED planted in the ground. Dantewada's Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava said, the incident took place around 8.30 am when a joint team of various Security Forces (SFs) was out on a road security operation near Bodli camp, located over 400 kilometres from the State capital Raipur. A team of personnel belonging to the DRG, the Special Task Force (STF) and the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) had launched the operation on a hypersensitive patch from Bodli towards Kariametta village, he said, adding that about 650 metres away from the camp, Maoists hiding in a forest triggered an IED blast in which an assistant constable received minor splinter injuries. The rebels also exploded another command pipe IED in the area at around 10 am to target SFs, but the latter escaped unhurt, SP, Pallava added. Later, SFs cordoned off the entire area and recovered four live IEDs, planted by Maoists.
