14 suspects arrested in 2022 for plotting to carry out what the police described as a “mass casualty attack with explosives” in Addu City, were released from custody on May 29, due to lack of sufficient evidence, with only one of them charged, reports Sun Online. The joint counter-terror operation by the Security Forces in November 2022 had led to the arrest of 14 suspects: 10 from Addu, two from Male’ City,and two more from K. Guraidhoo. The Police had said the suspects had been plotting to carry out “the biggest terror attack in the nation’s history”.
