The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a person, identified as Azharuddin, having links with Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Al Qaeda India Sub-continent (AQIS) identified in Lucknow who is a resident of Saharanpur, on charges of waging Jihad (holy war) and radicalising youth by means of jihadi literature and videos on December 31, reports Times of India. The accused was associated with active elements of AQIS and JMB, namely Mudassir and Abu Talha, Ehsan and Mufakkir. They used to propagate jihadi ideology amongst the people and propagate to establish Sharia law in the country by connecting people with the ideology of AQIS and JMB. One mobile phone with two SIMs was also recovered from Azharuddin's possession during his arrest.
