On January 1, a civilian, identified as Sameer Ahmed Malla was injured in a grenade attack near Mirza Kamil Chowk in Hawal area of Srinagar District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports Daily Excelsior. The grenade was aimed at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) vehicle but missed the intended target resulting in injuries to the civilian. The CRPF and J&K Police launched a search operation in the area.
An old mortar shell was found 150 metres away from the railway line at Kali Badi near the Samba railway station in Samba District of J&K, Daily Excelsior reports on January 2. A bomb disposal squad inspected the mortar and found it empty.
