Daily life was partially affected owing to the bandh (shut down) enforced by the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-Maoist-Chand) across the nation on June 25, reports Kathmandu Post. The outfit called the bandh to protest the killing of its Sarlahi in-charge Kumar Paudel in ‘encounter’. Transportation was disrupted while educational institutions and market places remained closed due to the bandh in various provinces. The suspected bandh enforcers planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Kailali, Baitadi, Bajhang, Pyuthan, Nawalparasi, Kaski, Palpa, Chitwan, Baglung, Sindhupalchok, Sindhuli, Solukhumbu, among other Districts. There was no human casualty as the security personnel defused the explosives.
Meanwhile, Police in Kaski District of Province No. 4 on June 25 arrested Vinod Sonam, Lamjung District Secretary of CPN-Maoist-Chand on the charge of planting an explosive device in Pokhara Metropolis-14, reports The Himalayan Times. Vinod Sonam was arrested for his alleged involvement in planting an improvised explosive device (IED) at Siddhartha Chok-based Phewa Agriculture Pvt Ltd on June 24.
