The Special Bureau of the Nepal Police on February 4, arrested Arjun Katwal, the ‘treasurer’ of Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-Maoist-Chand) from Kathmandu city in Kathmandu District of Province No 3, reports Kathmandu Post. “The arrest happened but further details will only be disclosed once the investigation is over,” a Police official told on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 31, directed Nepal Police to take action against Police officers involved in the killing of Kumar Poudel, Sarlahi District in-charge of the CPN-Maoist-Chand, reports The Himalayan Times.Poudel was killed in a cross firing between the party cadres and Police in Sarlahi District of Province No. 2 on June 20, 2019. The Ministry’s instruction is based on the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) report submitted on October 22, 2019, which termed Poudel’s death “extra-judicial killing”.
