On June 8, Maldives and India reached an agreement to establish a Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism, to combat violent extremism and de-radicalisation, reports The Edition. The decision was made during deliberations held between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the course of the latter's two-day state trip to Maldives. In addition to terrorism, both leaders agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation on issues of common concern including piracy, organised crime, drugs and human trafficking. Maldives Independent adds that six Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)s were signed on June 8. These MoUs were for cooperation in the field of hydrography, in the field of health, MoU for the establishment of passenger and cargo services by sea, for cooperation in customs capacity building between the Maldives Customs Service and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs of India, MoU between Maldives Civil Service Commission and National Centre for Good Governance, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances on Training and Capacity Building Programme for Maldivian civil servants and Technical agreement on sharing white shipping information between the Indian Navy and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
