A group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres struck at a road construction site, set on two earthmovers fire and assaulted the labourers, in Chatra-Lawalong at Karmahi forest area under Sadar Police Station limits in Chatra District of Jharkhand on December 12, reports Outlook India. A group of 15-20 Maoists arrived at the road construction site and set ablaze two JCB machines of the firm engaged in the work, and also beat up some labourers present there before sneaking into the forest, Superintendent of Police (SP), Rakesh Ranjan said, adding, the incident was an “act of desperation” on the part of the Maoists over their demand for ‘levy’ (extortion money).
