Obaidullah, who is "head of Daesh [Islamic State-Khorasan Province (IS-KP)] operations in the north and northeast of Afghanistan " and "one of the main masterminds behind the assassination of religious scholars Mawlawi Ayaz Niazi and Azizullah Mufleh," has been arrested during an operation, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) announced in a statement on September 10, reports Tolo News. He was trained at the Haqqani Network's Abdullah Ibn Mubarak Madrasa between 2012 and 2014, and also received military training by the network in North Waziristan camps, the statement said. After his graduation, he acted as a trainer for the network. With the establishment of Daesh in Afghanistan, he joined the group with several other colleagues and became the head of Daesh operations in the north and northeast of Afghanistan, according to the statement. During the investigations, he "confessed that he was involved in several attacks in Kabul that were carried out by Daesh," the statement said. “Before Obaidullah was arrested, he was planning a bombing attack of the Imam Sadiq Mosque in Kunduz city,” according to the NDS.
